    Someone's gonna get it!!!

Someone's gonna get it...can you guess who?

This is something a little different to what I'm used to doing. It was inspired by Bobby Chiu's artwork. I wanted to create something with a little humor and some storytelling. I made a 15 second sketch of the two faces, scanned it, and colored it in Photoshop.

The idea and composition is cool, but the it feels like it needs abit more finishing to it. The boy at the front has a few blurry edges compared to the bully and would look better if he was sharper and slightly brighter IMO.

Plus the eyes are a very important part in a simple cartoon style, so give the glasses/eyes abit more detail and life.

I love the style and caricatures. Awesome.

One thing that stuck out were the bully's eyes, they're absolutely glowing. Turn down the saturation just a tiny bit. Actually, do that for the whole bully, he's super-saturated and his fluorescent shirt and mako eyes are fighting for my attention. Maybe throw in some reflections of the back of his victim's head and dweebishly large ears.

Your light source seems to be coming from lots of different angles, comparing shadows all around the piece. The bully's shirt, for instance, seems lit from the center of the piece, but the shadows cast on the door say the light's coming from below and to the front. I definitely see where you're going, though. Unify the light source and it'll look better. Darken and sharpen the shadows for some good contrast.

The mace can is oddly executed, and the labeling doesn't seem to match up with the angle of the container.

Hope that's not too harsh a crit for Finally Finished!

Am I a bad person for thinking "rape" when I look at this?

The skintones are getting dull and muddy, I think you need a lot more midtone saturation. As it's ben said, that green shirt is awfully....greeny.

Haha, excellent! That's really funny, you managed to capture the story perfectly.
No crits, I'll leave that to the more experienced on this one...
Any tips appreciated (The Whyatt Sketchbook)

Conceptwise, this is excellent. Great idea, good angle. However, executionwise... you need to study up on colors. As mentioned before, they are a li'l on the grey side, making the saturated colors jump at the viewer.

Are these a caucasian and a colored kid? The skintones are too similar, and overall, too brown. Try using other colors as well to do skin (greens/blues/purples). The hair is also a bit unfinished like this, it looks too 'hard' and plastic, get a smaller brush to do the bangs/li'l tuffs.

I also wonder about the door: are they in or outside the girls bathroom? And why are they there? It's the busiest bathroom of the school, so not the place to tackle the enemy.

I understand the concept (well, i guessed he was gonna dunk the small kid's head in the toilet or something) but I'm just wondering why this kid was reading a book right in front of the girls' bathroom

Only if I am too. I had to read all the other comments before I realized it's just a bully.

I'm STILL not convinced he's not about to sexually assault the kid- Look at that look on his face! If that's not a future rapist, then I dunno what is.

Anyway, Artina: I like the rendering, but I'd watch the saturation. The highlights and shadows on the skin are both low saturation, but so are the mid-tones. This makes both boys' skin seem dusty. Typically the mid tone is slightly more saturated. Normally this wouldn't be something I'd even notice, but everything ELSE is soo saturated (the hair, eyes, shirt, etc..) that the skin really stands out.
'Cuz life is full of your regrets, and I should be one...

I almost think a change in expression with the bully's fingers would do the trick. If you were to make him crack his knuckles either cupping a fist in his other palm, or put his fingers outstretched, then it would convey more of a "i'm about to beat you up!" sort of feeling than the excited Mr. Burns finger twiddle that seems to be there right now

    Good storytelling.

I'd say watch Big Boy's right arm placement in comparison to the head it's behind...overlapping shapes. The space between the two is a bit unclear.

I think it would look and feel several times better if you added more yellow. Some in the skin tone, the bully's hair and the green shirt would bring out the piece more. Play around with the hues in photoshop and see how you feel about that.
Still trying to think of a clever saying.

i think everything is said. the edges need some sharpening and the colors are somewhat to saturated and 'just one color' ish. maybe get some more colors in the face like reds, blues and yellow tints, because you see them all in you everyday face.
