Hey thanks for checking out my first post. My names Rafail, Ruffy for short, I’m from Cape Town South Africa, I’m 19 years old studying Film and Media Production at the University of Cape Town. I’ve been checking out the amazing art this community has been posting for a while now and have been flabbergasted by the works produced, it inspired me to take more interest in drawing. I doodle alot and have finished a few sketches over the past few years but have never attempted to treat drawing as a technical skill that can be honed and improved. South Africa’s concept art scene is pretty glum, our gaming industry is non existent and its hard to find schools that focus on illustration and drawing but through posts I hope to receive constructive advice for a budding artist hoping to bring his skills up to a professional level thanks for your time and help..

This first post is a sketch and quick color done on a tablet I saved up to buy… it killed my pocket but I knew it was a must.. The sketch isn’t exactly finished but critique is welcome.

I like it I like it would be better if he was holding the glow instead of his hand glowing. If that makes sence. Just move it down a little bit

This a crop of a work in progress, its a samurai fight scene, i know quite cliche but i cudnt help myself.. critique welcome

Hey dude! These look pretty cool. I'd say you should probably take the time to work out the construction of your images first like working through the form of the figure. Drawing what you don't see lightly underneath or with a blue col-erase and then going over top with a graphite pencil. This will help with your structural issues. Other then that you've got some cool designs and you have good attention to detail. Cool beans.

I like your first character designs, especially the second, loads of good detail and nice costume design as well. They're, however, rather stiff and you'll benefit a lot if you'd study life drawing. I see you're already started doing so, those gesture studies are on to a good start. Maybe try to have them even more simple and loose, don't focus too much on the details there. Perhaps only 30sec poses would force you into that! Keep on drawing

your knowledge of construction of the human form is good, keep it up but i think you should do some gesture drawings focusing on the movement... make it simple...likee with sweeping lines.. draw the direction of how the body turns this or that way same with the arms and legs. try to make the figure flow! hope that helps a bit!

just some random shit i've done, mostly unfinished work, the painting is far far far from done, but its my first time attempting to paint AT ALL...lol its really hard but i'm learning alot and enjoyin it so yeah crit welcome.
