please please please review my portfolio?

So it's about time to be sending off to colleges, and being stupid, i've waited until now to ask people what they think.

i'm applying to SCAD and MICA (and a few others, but my portfolio was already accepted to them, so yeah).

Is this ok? Also, i know i need more, any ideas on what kind of things i need to make this more complete?




(i really hate the sheep one, but everyone i talk to likes it for some reason. is it worth painting better, or should it be left as it is, or just remove it all together?)


(this would be photographed instead of scanned, cause this isn't the whole thing, but you can hopefully get the gist of the image?)

(this was from my first figure drawing class, i'm taking more, so there could be more of these. how many is acceptable for a portfolio? are figure studies ok to have in it at all? if they are, is this an alright quality, or should they be full paintings or something. . .?)

thanks for looking. in case you forgot what i was asking while looking through those ridiculously large images:

-what needs to go?
-what needs to change?
-what types of things could be added?
~if figure studies are acceptable to be in it, what defines good presentability (are they ok raw, or need to be painted, etc)
~if scientific studies are ok (such as the crane fly opposite the comic about catching the specimen), how does one present them?
~if comics are in the portfolio, with or without text?

nice work Arpad. I think many schools also like to see a self-portrait and maybe a piece or two done from life. I would also work on a really nice figure drawing to replace the sketchy one you have.

the first one is a self portrait, haha. but maybe they like real portrait type self portraits?
also, when i think figure drawing i think like that. i agree with you, though, so by really nice do you mean painting, or just more intense. . .? sorry for needing specifics but yeah.

IMHO, ALOT more life drawing, and ALOT less pencil lines in the finished work. You can include 30 second gesture drawings. Most schools Love 'em. Aside from the life work, the third pic is the best piece.

I would say that any piece you're really unsure of, take it out. Keep the sheep piece, though...it has a very commercial (as in marketable) look to it.

I think it really depends on where you want to go with your work. Get as many information about the place and then build your portfolio.

Is this everything in your portfolio? I think you need a lot more. Also portfolios aren't due until later in the year so you have time. Get your applications in but hold off your portfolio until its fully developed.

yeah, as of now this is all there is. are you sure it's ok to get in applications but wait for a portfolio? that wouldn't look horrible in the eyes of the college?

i'm fairly sure i see exactly what you mean. thanks a lot for that advice, as i think it's gonna be really valuable when i'm revamping this thing! And while i'm planning on looking it up, but if you know of a good way of presenting gesture drawings, i'd really appreciate it.

Yeah of course! Your supposed to submit your application, and then there is a separate deadline for portfolios.

Some pieces are like that...It looks like it was done in a vector program to me, though. Flash and logos are usually vector-based.
