a newbie with a serious question.

so i stumbled across this site via a random link and really like it so far. i am definitely in search of constructive criticism rather than people saying, 'you're so good!' i am constantly striving to improve.

however, it seems that this site has a focus on realist art, and i am not a realist artist by any stretch of the imagination. i'm not exactly an abstract artist, either. for instance, i've been drawing a lot of contorted nudes lately, sort of in the vein of egon schiele, for instance, and a lot of paintings that started out as blind contours but turned into something completely different.

i want to know if it's worth my time posting my work here. is it going to be ignored or unduly ripped apart because it's not realistic, or should i give it a shot?

    thanks!

I know im a noobie here and just signed up 2 days ago but.....
Post your work in the sketchbook topic. Then, if you get bad replies then you can quit (if you want). But dude i have a really good feeling that you wont get bad replies, but that you will get tips or cool things that you could do to make your work better. Thats why i joined this forum, so i could get better and learn more stuff about art everyday. All im trying to say is that you will get good remarks on your work, so theres nothing to worry about. If you get bad remarks do whatever you want. But this is just my opinion.

No, it's won't, and yes, give it a shot. It may well get ignored, it may get duly ripped apart, but it won't be because of style or genre.

What have you got to lose?

Seriously though, anything but heavily stylized, some types of modern and severely abstract art all originate from the same basic rules of anatomy, proportion, composition, perspective and value. So anything above and below "art" art benefits from criticism based on a perspective founded in reality.

Your work won't be unduly ripped apart if it's good. If there's something that could improve, you'll hear about it.
