I gave the apple a try this morning, I think I did okay for my first try.
This is my first time with glass so it's kind of shakey.
This thread is inspiring so I had to do one too. Done with mouse, no wacom yet.

yea same here, can't afford one at the moment, plus I'm totally new to digital painting, so yay
I was watching this thread for a while and I've been trying to improve my painting skills with photoshop. I really want to get into painting humans eventually, so I tried the apple to test my hand a bit. Here's the result.
I've been using PS for a while but this is really my first time seriously 'painting' anything. Hope it looks ok.

here's a quickie, like 20-25 minutes... kinda hard since the light was constantly changing direction at a slow pace.. and also the white texture of the cellophane cup was capturing all kinds of colors and shadows! tough tough....

here's the same cellophane cup, buy without that harsh light.. it's more neutral now.. took me like 15 minutes.

i have a question.. does anyone know how to change the pressure sensitivity for their wacom tablet?
you guys are amazing. I'm kind of a newbie to digital painting and it's a little intimidating seeing how far along you all already are. (inspiring though)
I have a question- how do you know which colors to choose when painting from life? I find myself staring at the fruit or whatever and trying to match up the colors in photoshop but they end up being totally different. like a darker weirder version of the actual fruit. how do you really know if the colors are right? It must be a vague question but I would seriously appreciate any answers, thanks![]()
This is such an awesome idea and Min you are a legend! Have a kiwi fruit.

Hi! This is my first time using this hard brush technique and i have to say that i totally love it! I'm throwing away my soft edge brushes and smudge tools
Also i believe this is my first ever digital still life painting, I learnt loads doing this exercise so i thank this thread for inspiring me to do it.
Enjoy my fruit! Crits comments and very much appreciated.

Virtual life
Well, I'm totally new here, but I thought I'd jump right in. I've got a lot of exp in photoshop, so know most of the shortcuts, but my traditional skills are nonexistant. Hopefully I'll be able to change that here.
Here's my apple. A bit frustrating that a painting this bad took me somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 hours, but I guess both accuracy and speed will improve with time. Crit is greatly appreciated should anyone want to offer any. Muchas gracias.

So I learned allot and tried another apple with no ref. it turned out a bit better, but man this is hard, i been messing with try'n to do something other then an apple and man it is hard, I am having a hard time making a decent circle or straight line even on this pad, is that something you just re-learn?
New here & My apple:
first time with colors, using a Wacom tablet.
I'm having a hard time keeping the outlines smooth as you can see (especially in the lower outlines of the apple) any suggestions?

Uh, I don't know if we're still getting critiques anymore of if we're just showing our attempts, but here's mine:
I have the steps saved in case anyone wants to see them. This is my first go at a digital painting. Please feel free to rip it apart. I want to get better!
And yes that apple was really that shiny. It had three light sources on it. I felt like I didn't quite nail the values, and that I may have overdone the reflected light source a bit. Thoughts?
