A new character design. This guy uses a lot of spinning backhands, elbows, and forearms, so I gave him armor in the right places and a,.. skirt to twirl. He also likes to drink [1 more?]. Hey its 4 am and I'm actually tired! Oh well, something to work on tomorrow-

Ok, so I put this guy in a crowded bar and its.. too crowded. He seems giant, the composition is just off, so I might resize the canvas and have another go at a background.

For some reason, I couldn't connect to CA last night. Server down?

Anyway, I've been looking at Carlos Cabrera's free video tutorials http://www.carloscabrera.com.ar/tutorials/ and found out I use pretty much the same process as him only he does it more efficiently. I love these video tutorials and if anyone has links to more free ones I'd appreciate it.

Hey - I'm having a laot of trouble loading thispage... maybe your images are very large... even so, only the first post would load images. does anyone else have this problem?
I didn't really see much of your work, but i really like the rendering style of the man with the stick in the first post.
Hopefully i'll get to see more soon

    Hi Joatley,
Thanks for crits in my sketchbook!
I think you're quite right with the grayscales practice for me, I do really need to look in to this.
I like the light in your last post, the image would be dull without the strong white light source. Did you do this by starting in grayscale as well?

    Nice job!!
It should always be bore in one's mind that he must be responsible for his life........

UnSharpened - You're welcome for the crits, and no, I actually didn't use a grayscale for that last image, but I did for the following one.

llothcat - I only used line paper in high school when I should've been taking notes.
marioucci - I try to have as much fun as I can, but sometimes the tedious stuff is what helps the most eh?

OK, haven't updated in a while, tryin to find a job. Here's the little sketches I've been wrestling with from my dry spell-

It's starting to look like I'll have to get some lame-ass job outside of art/design just to make ends meet :/ which ... sucks.

Curious, how did all of you get your start in games/art/illustration?

    Did you have to relocate?

Do I need a professional [not free] website to display my portfolio?
    better than this? - http://www11.asphost4free.com/tjartist/

Where do you do your job searches?

Is my work lacking in anything specific that might prevent me from getting a job?

Here is a sample of my resume sans anything too personal-
    ----------
    Professional Objective
Seeking entry-level design position with established employer.

    Education
2006 Bachelor of Fine Arts – Art, University of Wisconsin – Stout, Menomonie, WI.

    Related Course Work:
    · Graphic Design I & II · Design Theory and Methods
    · Presentation Techniques · Design I
    · Computer Imagery · Fundamentals of Design

    Qualifications
    Operating Systems:
    · Macintosh and Windows XP
    Software Knowledge:
    · Adobe Photoshop · Microsoft PowerPoint · Corel Paint Shop Pro
    · Adobe Illustrator · Microsoft Word · Corel Painter
    · QuarkXPress · Macromedia Director · Wacom Tablet

    Transferable Skills:
    · Fast, experienced illustrator
    · Excellent communicator
    · Strong spelling and grammar skills
    · Effective presentation techniques
    · Able to quickly develop rapport, identify needs, and convey concepts
    · Experience in game map design and texturing
    · Adept at character and environment concepts

    Honors and Awards
2003 Placed second nationally in National Anti-Vivisection Society’s “Art for the Animals” contest
    2000 Designed High School yearbook
    1996 Designed Middle School yearbook
Throughout my primary and secondary education, my work has been chosen and featured in local art exhibitions to represent my school.
Have submitted numerous original character and environment designs to gaming websites that have consistently been among the most downloaded and utilized entries.
    -------

Yeah, so my resume is really lacking any related work experience [its all been either labor or food service, yuck].

Lastly, to feed an image to this post, here's a pair of old screenshots of a map I developed for Jedi Academy years ago:
    Name: shot0773.jpg
Views: 402
Size: 167.2 KB

    Name: shot0774.jpg
Views: 354
Size: 171.1 KB

I've done a LOT more than this room (probably 100+ rooms). I don't have any mapping experience outside of the Quake 3 engine and gtkradiant, but I've been told that my architecture designs are certainly some of the most unique and creative for this game.

nice sketches. just a few notes. back off the black. its u use less pure black and white it lets the other values and colors sing. the cabrerra tuts are good. but grayscale coloring can be tricky. do a few studies that force u to use actual color on color and then once u get a grip of that the grayscale to color method will work out better.

those last few are looking really good.

Do you guys know of a good webspace host? I'm looking for something reliable with a reasonable cost. I'm just asking if you're satisfied with your current host for your webpages.

Anyway, haven't posted in a while so I thought I'd toss a couple sketches out-
