Hi Mac,
welcome to the club. I can feel with you, did nearly the same - just was doing ads instead of drawing (and I´m not married). I see even the the 40 rolling towards me ... and yes, I have to get back to my old standards again, too.
I hope to see some of your actual stuff later on here - the sketchbook people here are a friendly community.
Fipse
BTW I checked your website some times earlier and I think you shouldn´t have much of a problem getting back ...
I have also been learning to color, my greatest fault has always been not finishing my work... and jsut leaving it in a doodle state.. well these are my attempts and styles of the years since 95 they are in oder
I tried color pencil
![]()
I tried water colors
![]()
I tried markers
![]()
I started learning to color on the computer after reading some tutorials
![]()
after some practice I think I got kinda good at it

I colored this one yesterday on a very old sketch that I really liked... it was a pretty bad drawing but with the stuff I know how to do now I was able to fix it up and turn it into something cool
( before )ball point pen

after fixing it in photoshop

I really love color ruff grainy sketches but I have found that the better/cleaner the sketch from the start the better the drawing turns out....

I've also been working on environment designs... I'm not very good but I really want to get better...
My wife bought me a new Intuos 2 drawing pad for my birthday so I've been trying again

I need some work I think I have good layouts but I need to figure out how to make the realism come out...
Like this one
its start out really cool but the clouds got muddy... and everything turned into a cartoon....
the trees....!@#$%!@ I'm not gonna even comment
I wish I could find a tutorial how to build this stuff up to look real... I know theres a system I just need to see it and I know I could make it work in time

well here i am... on August 22nd 2003
I'm going to begin this thread.. from this day forward...
I'm going to use references for my pictures... I have always had the idea that if you look at something it cheating... so I'm gonna start and stick to that...
here is my first sketck using a refernece....
![]()
I know I know... but yes it is from a refernce... it was an upper body of young Arnold Schwarzenegger and I actually like it ... I was playing with my drawing padd again... I think the muscles structure is good... better than I do out of my head...

whew... I thought I was in trouble... when ever I start to draw realistice... my hands just go crazy can start tooning everything...
wow where does all the time... go has it really been since September Since I drew last ... there has to be something I been working on.... I will have to look and find what I hav ebeen doing ... there has to be something
OK FOLKS----- I have been working for a long time in my Journal... 2 years it seems... My Story is really comming along... and having a story to draw from has really been helping me...
I am going to start posting images from my journal for you guys....
alot of it is on lined paper... but I am cool with it... I have begun an image Journal as well but for some reason my best Ideas and characters are on lined paper... go figure.... I have tried to use Painter to paint images... but I stink at it... coloring in photoshop seems to be my best tool...
so I will keep at it...
