    voodoo-themed color sketch

    hey there.

no work today (german reunion day) so i had lots of time to waste.
instead of working on my thunderdome entry, i started sketching a little bit to loosen up mind, hand and creativity.
in the end, i was surprised about the result that i kinda like a little bit.
i'm very fond of bald-headed girls linked to some kind of voodoo-theme.

ripping apart, critics and comments are highly appreciated.

    thank you

Hey Gekitsu, I like this pic. Nice color pallette.

I am from Louisiana originaly and I have always been interested and dabbled in the history of VooDoo for some time. Here are some links that might help you in getting some research info for concept building. To me this is the part that is the most fun in building genre based concepts.

    Vodun history:

a cool shop and stuff to do while in the Big Easy:

These sights have images and links to images that could influence and inspire your artwork.

Germany has a Reunion Day now? That's cool. I lived in Germany when the wall came down. It happened on the eve of my birthday. It's cool to see that country and its people move forward so well, with all of the crap it has been through. Very inspiring.

    Uh...

    Nice. Happy reunion day then
I was thinking that maybe we should post smaller pic's unless they have a tone of details?
Maybe a 500 pixels wide pic and a link to the hi-res?
Just to take care of the modem users too (i'm on cable most of the time but i have modem at home and.. i know the feeling).
This could set some order around?
Sorry for bothering. Keep it up :chug:

    thanks you two

oblio: yeah, generally, i would have made it smaller but i wound up posting it in 1:1 size since it isn't too large. i see 100 kb as a magical line i try not to go beyond with one image.
when i post more than one pic, i try to keep them as small as possible but have keeping quality in the first place. resolution wise, i am egoistic enough to go for file sizes that look okay on my 19" @1600x1200

mitch: thank you very much :chug: <- german beer
i should have mentioned... i didn't refer to voodoo in itself... it's that mixture of morbid/necromantic/supernatural/magic that i like a lot and refer to as voodoo to keep things easy.
thanks for the links, i'll check them out right now.

re reunion day: yeah, it's cool. although the reunion gave us a major kick in the economical butt, it's a good thing and ahuge step forward. at least it's one thing we're allowed to be proud of (no idea what it is like outside germany but here, it's kind of like a taboo to even express that you like your country - you could be one of those nazis... no need to comment what you are when you are interested in german history and culture.)

any more comments on the critical side?
what i see now is a lack of marks in the head shape and the nose looks too undefined and flat.

come on... give it to me

I would put more emphasis on the light coming out of the eye. like maybe bouncing off of the edges of the eye socket like you did with the edge of the nose and the edges facing that light. maybe work with that main light source coming from above shining on her head. Otherwise, I really like that muted purple you used.

If you want to talk about the German pride thing in the lounge forum, I would love it. I don't want to clutter your artwork thread with that stuff.
