Making fake food - First post

I have observed fake food before and I find the copies are uncanny realistic.
I am a newbie here and in the art. I am making my molds OK and reproductions.
But how these things are colored is a mystery to me. Can anyone help me out on this subject?
BTW what is the formula for mixing the color gold?

Well that's kind of a vague question.. in order to tell you how to color something you'll have to tell us what you would be casting in.. silicone? resin? latex?
same for the gold color formula.. what kind of paint? what kind of effect are you going for? ther is no ONE formula for gold

    Making fake food

OK I am trying to make a cheeseburger. I have seen some on Ebay but they are to small. My bun is a foam latex. Feels like a real bun too.
My mold is silicone and I am casting a bun that I used "SO-STRONG"
Brown color tint. It goes a long way. For one bun, I used only one drop and it gives the bun a light tan look which I don't like. Three drops gives it a to dark appearance.
Hah, I'm a retired sign painter ad forgot how to mix it. Always bought imitation gold premixed.

I'm sorry i don't understand, you say your bun is foam latex but you say you used so strong pigments, those are used for intrinsicaly coloring urethanes, are you trying to paint foam latex with so strong? Not the best option.

For painting foam latex ususally PAX paint is used, that's a 50/50 mix of the medical adhesive 'Prosaide' and acrylic paint. you can buy small bottles of prosaide..

But are you sure you used foam latex and not a two part polyurethane foam???
