Christie, you are on fire!! Love the pen-and-ink Halloween sketch and the digital painting of the "big egg". Where are you taking classes these days?

@dlquddnr- Thanks! And ah, where I got this from... I just started drawing as a little kid and never stopped! And if you live in Southern California, definitely take some classes/seminars from Marshall Vandruff. Amazing speaker/teacher.

@sfa- Thanks Sherwin! And these days I'm just taking city college classes; for the art classes, I have Watercolor, and Drawing from the Masters with Marshall (those are where the gesture and master copies come from) and an illustration class. I plan to do more CDA next term-- hopefully Kevin's analytical fig drawing and at least one of the environmental / basic classes-- hope you'll be in there too!

@PieMonster- Thanks! Those birds were really fun (=

And speaking of those classes here are more gestures from the drawing class (from cartoonists) and a master copy for watercolor class (Sargent).

...And woah, the uploading categories and stuff? It's taking only about forever to upload, so .. photobucket for now

Actually, the gestures aern't homework; I have two classes with Marshall V and in each of those we do an hour of gestures in the beginning of class as warmup exercise. In Drawing from the Masters, we draw from slides of artwork (have done artists like Kley, AB Frost, Michelangelo, etc and more lately these cartoonists, since this semester has an emphasis on pen and ink) and in Watercolor we paint gestures from slides that contain photographs of animals or athletes. I usually label my exercises with the amount of seconds or minutes each pose / slide is up for, and the slides for these cartoons were up for 2 minutes each.

The homework was that Sargent picture (do a watercolor master copy)

They're really good exercise, you should do them sometime too on your own; use Google image search and see what you can find haha (=

    Zombies, yeah!

    And some other stuff.

The flat stuff was done in iScribble.net , the others in Photoshop.

Anyway, when I saw Jason Manley's email in my inbox concerning the steps taken by this place to fight the Orphan Works... I was just... Awww. Jason Manley I love you.

    Happy new year!

Helioth - Aww, thanks! Actually I'm super lazy haha
sfa- look who'se talking!! you're crazy! Thanks so much though, same here, so excited for that class!
Teh Gosu- Thank you! I'm glad you consider it fun and playful!
dlquddnr- Thanks! iScribble is really fun. Try it out sometime

Anyway classes finally started! Am taking these art classes this term so expected posts include stuff from...:

Marshall Vandruff- Animal Drawing, Drawing from the Masters, Watercolor
Kevin Chen- Analytical Figure Drawing (and one more fig draw class at city college)
    James Paick- Environment Design

A Valentines WoW pic someone had me draw for her (otherwise I'd be drawing zombies, really )
And meanwhile sorry the iscribble stuff is old but I want to keep them together in the same time frame... they're fun to do and relatively quick so I hope to do more (though now that I have an actual class for this kind of stuff, I oughtta be using photoshop instead!) And anyway, all the aside, the next stuff should be new! hooray, I hope!

Also, critique would be much appreciated on that last pic, something about it's been driving me nuts (probably the anatomy and the wacky helmet among other things) and I've left it alone and forgotten it for some time. Thanks!

    Speedy boat

A speedy painting of a speedy boat!
Was trying out compositing stuff wiht a photo as base http://www.burningwell.org/gallery2/..._0399.jpg.html

Also thumbnails from week one class enviro design... note to self, I must learn my lesson of not procrastinating. I stayed up all night literally to do this. It was painful and kinda fun (masochism much?) These aren't very good but in each of them there's at least a concept I enjoyed

    @Sublimus- Thanks man!

More enviros from sunday class- black and white stuff from week 2, color from week 3... I think i have improved!

And watercolors from saturday class.. comp studies from Japanese prints. also, stumbled upon a photo of a cute little Asian kid that I thought would make a nice watercolor.

    And some Nintendo DS sketches!

    More updates!

I'm supposed to choose one of the concepts to be developed into more full on pieces so I guess these are WIPs. I'm going with the seaside picture first.

The tree pic as a painting is pretty busy to me with all the light specks and textures, so I want to fix that up too. Also wanted to add more tree houses (a city coulda been neat) but I ran out of time and just didn't do the idea any justice. So I will be working more on this pic/concept later for fun ~

Seems like enviros are your big forte--which is saying a lot, because your characters are also super strong! Really enjoy looking through your work, gives my fingers the drawing itch, heh Hope to see more!

    Wow!
Chris, Some really strong studies in here.
All the digipaints are really fresh. Your character work was one of the best in Kevin's class. But, you are good at all the other aspects of concept design.

It's very cool to see the next layer under that tip of the iceberg. Keep on doodling.

Very impressed with your work and your skills with enviros. What class do you attend and where, if I may ask?
The enviros really got a lot better in the last posts. I especially like post #107,
The only thing I would maybe try to experiment with is colour. I have a kind of feeling, though I'm by no means a pro in this field, that colours of enviros change quite frequently, only subtly, but still.
Love your faces. Very nice mix of comic and realism.

Joyvenn - Hello, thanks for dropping by and thanks for your kind words!

Janos - Hey Janos, thank you! The comment on frequent and subtle colors is rather striking and I'll be keeping that in mind, thanks!
And as for where I attend-- I currently attend city college, mostly for the teaching of Marshall Vandruff, (and also because I must remain a full time student to qualify for insurance among other things ) and I also attend classes and workshops at the Concept Design Academy ( aka CDA, www.conceptdesignacad.com )
The enviro class was with James Paick at CDA. Thank you, I'm glad to know I've improved! Also thanks for bringing up the mix of comic and realism; those are two things I'm really interested in and I love both and can't seem to choose one over the other.

So this post, just a quicky of a nerdy group of zombies, and also thought I'd include a wip of an enviro from the previous post.

    Thanks for visiting!

Well, I give up art. Officially. I've been admiring you on DA for 2 years but I had no idea that you're two years younger than me. Good work.
