It's the BACK, man you nail human's form! wait wait...I take that back...the Boxer ones is the winner. yeah yeah. Wait...I can't decide which is my most fav. Damn! all I can think about now is how to sneak up on you, and snatch your brain out.

your tdome entry was awesome! it was great seeing you do some more mechanical, structured stuff while still keeping the fresh sketchniness. this new batch is small but rad... how you've got the variety of stages of development like that is a pretty cool show.

i'm learning from your drawings.. and you're rubbing off on me

Steak- your drawing skills are shredding, I like the first guy especially, he has a logan feel to him, you've got the hairy body down really wel. I'd love to see them pushed even a little more so they have that coiled spring feel to them, effecient movement, potential energy and the experience of many fights. Great stuff bro, I'm with Nova I learn a lot from your posts.

yup, inspirational stuff. Loved the Dangermouse drawings - brought back some memories. I think I had a dangermouse costume when I was a kid - the white one with the belt. Your hatching is great at communicating form and texture - something I need to work on

    Steak!!!!

Man, you are TRULY rockin the Cazbah with these last updates. Spankin it!

Seriously, I want a poster of "IRON WIZARD DEFIANCE" to hang above my drawing table. The confidence in that gesture and rendering, not to mention the details on the Wiz in his hands and face...these things are smashing my face with a crowbar. In a GOOD WAY, of course!

So how is the job situation for ya? Glad to see you taking on clients! Still thinking of moving to Cali someday?

Anyways (More Monsters), I hope you (More Monsters) are having a nice (More Monsters) weekend and have a (More Monsters) great Turkey Day (More Monsters), Mandango!

nova: hey thanks laura, I'm glad you can get something from the drawings. If you ever want an explanation of anything lemme know

bojee: thanks ma man, I used your advice on the final. As I was finishing up I thought about your comment and gave him a black eye. So thanks dude, I owe ya! I'll buy ya a round is sf

MCM: thanks for the heads up man, alas I think I'll stay locked in my cave until I get a job (staying optimistic...)

Jens: thanks man, I really dig your self portraits - an drawings in general

Monkeyboy: haha I'm glad there are still fans about

JadePat: cheers m8 hopefully you got my pm. Man, I wanna move to Cali more than anything but I'd like to have a lil' something setup before hand. Hopefully January will reveal something.... More monsters ye shall get kind sir, I'll draw em' while I stuff my face.

    Jokisalo: thanks dude.

Mike-Co: Is it still up? thanks man, yer bustin' heads these days.

    auden100, zao7531: thanks fellas!

IMiguel: thanks man, hopefully you don't forget meeting me in june post away an I'll crit it up. can't wait for sf either.

I finished this fighter concept today. I thought I'd try to put together a process shot but didn't decide to do it until too late.

the final, modeled after me a little but obviously not the bod.

I started doing quick gestures to find an interesting shape

settled on one and developed it a little, still very quick

then the paint, flipped it through out the process and changed some proportions around, then added some cheesy PS effects

Did this with guggenmanuever while hung over, still-lives are hard! I wasn't prepared to have to redraw everything several times.

wetsuits, still working on this design. Obviously these aren't very "functional"

dang kemp, nice stuff... the painting has a very Leyendecker look to me, not sure why (pallete or lighting maybe?). I'm not a fan of the shadow work, it looks too smooth compared the the rest of the treatment, but it is very cool painting overall.

... and the sketches are all amazing as usual too...I'm sure you'll coming back from SF with quite a few leads....

Well shit dude. You're going nuts with these last dumps.

Nice painting. You handled the hair on the arms real well especially. As far as crits go, I think there's something a little odd with the back foot. I'm not sure what it is though, I think the heel might be too short?

Those wetsuit designs make me want to fuc...I mean look great. Very convincing highlights.

That SP is one of the best ones I've seen you do. Great work with the brush pens.

Hotshit steak, those are the sexiest, faceless full-body rubber suits I've ever seen in my life ( if only they were all like that !!! )
The fighter guy is rocking, nice colors man, have you been working out in secret?? The sp just keeps staring at me and I swear I saw it breathe !!!
    Freakin' superb !!
some crit: Since Groover mentionned it, the space between the backheel and the thumb became very distracting
I really like the dynamics of the fighter pose and I understand he's in movement, but I get the impression that he has alot of weight on his ass and he's going to fall over backwards off-balanced ( good thing he's reaching out to grab something ).

Edit: come to think of it, he looks sturdier when flipped over.

Steak- Damn man, your posts just keep getting tastier and tastier. The portrait .....damn that's nice. That's some serious sensitivity with the Brush pen. The wet suits, that's some seriously fucked up shit how sexy that is.....I love it. The sketches for the fighter are great, and the painting itself is awesome. He really has that weathered coiled spring thing I was talking about. Small crit : I have to agree with the guys about him looking off balance, for me it's in the back foot, he looks like he's on his heel, If the foot was rotated slightly and bent a little more so that it looks like he's on the ball of his foot i think it would solve your problem with minimal effort. Great bro , very inspiring.

Your painting technique is very interesting,it looks almost like your drawing with the paint, like you keep the brush set to 2 or 3 pixels through the entire thing.anyway its very unique is what im tryin to say..

Id say youve found your niche in tech stuff, you draw it like you where born too!!!..

    wow.
the pen (g-tec pilot?) stuff w/ the boxers and such look great. Guggen-Joel looks super great (confidence in your first lines. uh huh). the wet suit ladies look very round and 3 dimensional w/ the white highlights. brush pen sp ist vunderbar.
and I do believe I spy a Janice the Han doodle on the page w/ the still life. could she be the *gasp* non-CA person? If I wasn't a slave to obligations and if it tweren't so far, I'd love to partake in the inspirational goodness of Saturday sketching in Athens. Recently I've been getting my ego boosted by these non-art people looking at my stuff, but then I come here and realize how very much more I have to improve.

i was eating cow meat the other day and i imagined it transforming into a meat-mech. /bullshit'n

steak-tron, wow dude. i just thumbed through the last half of your sketch thread. it is really hot dude. i like the way you do stuff. the crosshatching is a really nice effect at times, it gives your works a very raw look. your rendering skills are very strong. i wanted to trade some praise for the indirect inspration i have received.

i equally enjoy when you take half-steps into something new. the transition of your style into a new media is exciting. late.

    steak....steak....steak...

sorry im hungry. your blowin me away with that last update man. some serious improvement. on the painting you may want to vary that hand in the background...it holds just as much focus as the hand in the foreground...fade out that back one and punch up some tight detail in the front hand and itll be fucking golden. like how puddnhead did his ramdemon...put the back hand out of focus...maybe look at that one again. just my two cents man. hit me up on my thread. id like a good bashing from the steak to put me back in line. peace out man your doing some hot shit. keep it up. word to your mother.

joe: thanks dude. Mr. Leyendecker is someone I keep going back too... Yea, I see what you mean about the shadow. I wondered If I should've included it for a long time. Thanks for the vote of confidence

Janu: thanks. glad you noticed the hairy arms I'll try to fix it before folio time. thanks for the crit!

Dennal: thanks hehe glad you liked the suits, thanks for the crit, always enjoy yer comments.

    12HIT: thanks

Bojee: thanks bro and again thanks for your suggestion on the fighter, I owe alot of that guy to your gestures.

bwkE: yea it's supposed to be cigs greaser style but it looks a little fishy. thanks for the words!

    bonedog: thanks dude

Rusty: "super" thanks Jace! ( homosexual style wink ) i kid... yea, I think you'd like em. I tried prismacolor greys a while ago and found the big nib too big and small nib too small. These are Faber-Castle... I think they just came out. Yea I am drawing with colors, I can't shake the hatching thing now but it's also kind-of a way for me to feel out the thing. I also don't have to change color every-time I want a value so I end up doing it out of habit. thx for the encouragement on the tech, I'm going to try and do alot more of that soon. -cheers-

xia: yea, you'd be amazed how bad a drawing looks when you flip it. Our eyes are dirty liars!!! thanks for yer words bro.

Roy: It's ok, I won't tell her thanks my friend. Trying to be more confident but Guggenjoel's head is huge... Yep, that's Janice alright. You can't really see it but she's killing me in the pic. It'd be cool if you could make it down, I don't know if I'll come up for fig. soon since I'm scrambling to get my folio ready. Let me know if you're in town tho, I aint to busy to do some drawing with another artist-hero.

MIkeC: I've got a bunch of drawings from early college that make me shudder... thanks dude.

killing.people: thanks man, I left you a longer response in your thread. I'm a big fan of your work too, looking forward to what's coming in that new thread o' yours.

crunch: Thanks, that makes perfect sense. I already blurred the foot, what was I thinking haha thanks for the crits. I'll try to get some werds in on your thread my-friend... and word to YOUR mother.

jdinx: JD! always awesome to hear from you, thanks for the words. I'm trying to make a bejeweled crown to present to you one day...

Sunny: thanks man, nice work on your site!

obid: oh don't let the drawing fool you No sexy dramatic lighting in real life ... thanks for the words bud.

not a big bump this time, in the middle of some bigger paintings. Finally getting to a point where painting is less like ripping my eyes out and stabbing them with a butter knife.

    Hey Kemp-Tron,
    New avatar whaa???
Sketches are fantastic as always. I never commented on your previous dump, but that self portrait is killer, the best you've done yet. Maybe its the dramatic lighting, but you look like sort of like a young Clint Eastwood, the subtly cocked eyebrow is just asking for someone to go ahead and make your day. Maybe? Maybe not. Anyway, its great.
In the last dump the anatomy arm studies are awesome. That sleepy-eyed long faced creature instantly got a crtl+click, it looks like how I've been feeling lately (Ive had a bad case of the flu...so the halfway-sneeze face is appropriate!). I think its great how it seems like you obesess over one reigon of the body at a time, Its the only way to really learn it, so props. The nursery-rhyme analysis I couldn't help but read...Its pretty interesting when you break it down, I'm curious why you're so curious about it?
My only critique is with the wrestlers...I feel like the ethnicity is sort of ambiguous, I don't know if its a huge concern of yours, but especially the top wrestler looks sort of quasi hispanic-asian. Maybe reference some Mexicans if that is what you're going for, because even within the hispanic category, I know that Mexicans have slightly different features than Coloumbians or Peruvians, for example.
Anyway, amazing work as always! Hope to talk to you soon, hopefully sometime when my anxiety levels arent through the roof! Dec 17th dont forget! ^_^

Thanks for the reply to my SB, so I'll do the same to yours.
Well, first of all... Great work and keep it up! Your characters are very original and display deep emotion; this is a very good thing. You should start using that mid-tone paper more because all the work on that paper seems to be the best of all your sketches! Anyways, back to the drawing board for me... Keep it up. :chug:

I'm currently not so active on these boards (art school is a time-consuming mother****er), but you bet I regularly check out this thread, Steakie!

Some of your more recent sketchpages blew me out of the water. Way to go.

In case you'd wonder: I'll start a new sketchbook thread early january.
