    Florida?

    Hey all!

I just moved here (to Gainesville) and I was wondering if there were any other artists in the vicinity, since I'm all alone. I'm interested in trying to find a figure drawing group (shouldn't be too hard, with UF right here) or any other art-related things of interest in Florida.

Also, feel free to post if you're nowhere near me - Fl is big, after all! I just noticed there wasn't a Fl thread in here. We can complain about how hot it is here and how big the cockroaches are

    Cheers!

More nearer to UCF here; Orlando / Kissimmee / Disney area

Why yes, the cockroaches outside can get pretty big, & I'm glad to know I'm not the only one sweating my ass off

Oh shite! I just graduated from UF and moved back up to the panhandle! I know that there is an open-to-everyone life drawing club on UF somewhere, but for the life of me I can't remember where it's held. I don't think you have to be a student to go either. If you ask around you might find out about it. I was too swamped to go myself, otherwise I'd have more info for you :/ Boy do I regret not going.

I also know about the Arts & Crafts center on UF's campus: http://www.union.ufl.edu/acc/

I found out about them a little late, and alas was too broke to do much crafting, but they had some pretty cool stuff going on.

Ah, the cockroaches. Many a spring break or three day weekend my roomate and I would return to our apartment, only to find several dead cockroaches sticking out of our carpets like they had divebombed it.

    The memories...

Edit: Whoops! Forgot to mention some stores. Michaels on Archer isn't the only good place to get some supplies - Central Florida Office Plus has two locations, one on NW 6th and one on SW 34th, and they've got some stuff you can't get at Michaels. It's where I got all my sculpting supplies, and they carry canvas and art papers, drafting supplies etc. There's also a store called Crafts & Stuff on NW 4th, but I've never been.

    Yay! Florida people!

Sangmort: Does the weather ever get nice? I heard a rumor that fall/winter is nice, but I don't entirely trust it

Sentinel13: Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. I've always lived in college towns, so I know open life drawing sessions abound. I just can't seem to find any information on the one at UF. Good to know it exists, though. I've been to the Michael's already for cheap sketching stuff, thanks!

At least my cats are excited about the roaches. Me, not so much.
