    Stitch's Scribblings [Updated 17th Oct]

More recent work in last posts

Hey, i'm newly registered here on CA but i've been lurking around staring in awe at other people's work for a while now, so i figured i would start to post my sketches here, aswell as on some other forums.

I mainly like to practise on anatomy and doodle random things in Open Canvas, and recently i have been trying to learn to paint in Open Canvas too.

I've also been using alot of Riven Phoenix's Structure of Man video's to try and get to grips with drawing people.

Any comment, suggestions etc. are appreciated!

These are my sketches and doodles from the past 2 weeks

    Thanks for looking

great start for you sketchbook stitch. these studies are going in the right direction, especially the ones where i see the construction lines. it's extra important when you are drawing from photos/books to understand the forms 3 dimensionally. one thing i'd suggest is to not limit yourself by working in a manga style. when starting out with drawing the figure, you want to strive towards realism. stylistic concerns come later on. it would also be a good idea to broaden your subject matter a bit with some still lifes or architectural drawings.

    keep up the good work!

    Thanks for the advice

I will be going to life drawing classes soon which i can't wait for, so that should be fun.

    Anyway, very small update.

I have never tried to paint skies and buildings and things in photoshop before so these are my first 3 attempts.

Any advice on this kind of thing would be nice, also i have been looking at matte painting and thought it was pretty interesting, so i would also like to ask if anyone has any advice in starting out that

Also i know these aren't very imaginative lol, i'm not really used to trying to draw buildings atm, so i tend to keep it very simple.

Great start ;D It looks like you have a good grasp of how to break down the body into segments, and the sketches that incorporate that segmentation look great. But there are other drawings where you don't seem to be using them and you should. Like the girl with the Chun Li buns at the end of post 1. In that sketch you drew an outline for her body based on what she should look like, but the lines look like they're swimming, not like they're describing something. Always start with your construction lines and draw your line drawing on top.

And kudos on the perspective drawing; I never have the patience for that stuff.

    Keep posting! ;D
