..and many more individual game designers and producers that just want their projects to be heavy with artwork.

    inspiration-
High sci fi space opera settings
    Fantasy Illustration
    Old 2000AD covers
    Interior images or role-playing books.
    Diablo settings and art direction
Magic the Gathering art and cards
If you have ever created work in any of these fields then there is no doubt i have been inspired by you and what you do.

    Bio-
I Grew up in Sydney, Australia then moved to Melbourne mid way through school, returning to Sydney to finish Highschool.
After finishing high school with an interest in art, design and concepts I got a scholarship to Martin college in North Sydney.
Graduated with distinctions and then took a year off from formal education. I painted and sketched at my home in Sydney
for around 14 months(running very low on money at that stage). I applied to a junior concept position role at a games company
in Brisbane Australia, I got the job and moved out of home.
    (Past)
I worked full time at the Brisbane studio in the art department from 2004, until its closure in late 2008. The financial crisis had
hit the Brisbane game industry hard with many companies losing their funding and sponsorships, they simply closed.
With the large amount of skilled people in the local area jobs were few and far between so what better time to travel.
I started freelancing and also applied to companies in the UK, I did a small contract at Microsoft's Rare studio on their flex
team, then went back to freelancing. I got a job as a senior concept artist working for THQ Australia then with Double Helix in LA,
after those contracts I have been freelancing for car companies and advertising
    agencies for tv commercials.

    (Present)
Currently I am looking for the next big project and freelancing for game devs while working on the occasional tv commercial or illustration job.

    (Future)
My end goal as a Senior concept artist or Concept Lead- is to work on film pre-production concepts.
Developing the mood and shot composition straight off the script working with Directors.

explaining the paper background - i , and i assume some of you too, suffer from WCS (white canvas syndrome ) when sketching, where its sometimes like stepping into a void. So to counter my WCS or as its sometimes refered to BCS (blank canvas syndrome ) i add a simple paper backing and set my pen colour to dark red almost black.

try it out some time if your struggeling with the square void.

Great stuff! This is quite a unique approach to me but it works really well. Extremely sketchy but very precise in what marks you make. This of course is making it a little hard for me to crit because my head is filling in the blanks, surely a good thing from a sketch standpoint. Any chance of seeing something a little more 'developed'?

ok updated at top of page, i made a texture brush out of a canvas, not a raw texture copy paste sort of deal, but a pallet knife with a texture underneath, so i got that texture brush and painted using the same pic as the background, giving a feeling of painting on real canvas. it was a good feeling.

cool man. have you tried changing the 'flow' setting instead of opacity? i find it gives the pen a really waxy, pressury feel like using conte or oil pastels...

Hey man, props for taking on the A-list inthe workshop T-dome.

Keep updating this SB, I'd like to see a lot more. Particularly I think you should do some digital workups of your pencil-and-pen designs.

Hey Alex, just went through your links and images. Nice stuff dude, looks like you've definitely got a good thing going w/ fuzzyeyes. Just out of curiosity, did you have any formal training and/or art degree before landing the job? and also, how did you land the job... you applied directly, or answered an ad, or were recommended, or what? just wondering if you'd share that story. thanks, and keep it up man, inspiring stuff.
