Street Fighter's Rainbow Mika - fanart

Altough my work isn't so good as the ones posted here, I'm posting this fanart for appreciation. It's a homage to one of my favorite chars on Street Fighter Zero 3, Rainbow Mika. She has a dream and fight for it!

Crits and comments for improvements on next works are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I totally agree with elwell. That's exactly where it went wrong for me. It looks so great and simplified in stage four and I think you just put too much information in. If it were me, I would cut the head from that phase (if you have versions saved) and paste it back over the final illustration and then make the color/edge adjustments to get it to sit with the final piece. That head really looked great at that phase though.

Something unfortunate happened to her face between stages four and five.

She inherited the Joker's smile. And got the facial features of an 8 year old.
That's unfortunate because it seemed to be going well up until that point.

You guys must be seeing something I don't...the head at stage 4 is flat and lacks red hues in the later stages that are also added across the body. Simply cutting that head I don't get. As for the critique, I think there are few areas that need some finish..the hair, the shoulder nearest us...and perhaps a pass of highlights...on the hair, the hip coming toward us and the leg, perhaps even the eye and the tip of the nose....just to add a little pop those. And the background...doesn't have to be fancy but finish the back ground you have...it detracts from the piece and this is really headed in a nice direction.

Hey guys, thanks for your comments. There's a reason for the weirdeness of her head. I was trying to make her believable, with meat on face and real structure, but mantaining the overall aspect of a manga character. Because this we have the rounded and childish face, that is making you don't feel confortable about her. To be honest I like the result... although I got to admit it's not exactly like what I really want to be. I had made more realistic facial features like the line of smile, but atenunated them, to mantain the simplicity of manga. Anyway, I'm taking note of all your comments, to apply maybe not on this one, but in all my next works.

I'm posting bigger versions of her head on 4th and final steps, if you could make a paintover to me, with your corrections, I'd be grateful

Well you can see the difference now.. Its in the mouth.. The lips are bigger and the mouth is a bit larger (you can see it by the lower teeth)
Also here face became a bit bigger in the width, judging from mouth to edge distance, and the nose has increased in size.. (And the left eye differs.) Overall that gives her a bit of a swollen face look..
I also preferred the unfinished face over the other..

At the finished version.. Somehow the ears seem to fall out of place.. It looks flat in comparison to the rest.. The shadows and highlights of the lowerbody skin don't seem as clean as that of the upperbody.. But maybe I'm imagining it

The finished face reminds me of a painted wooden doll. It looks very 3D, which I suppose is good, but in general I agree with Elwell. I would try going for sexy and mature, and see what happens. It might actually work better to keep things simpler, like more of a manga style face.

Great job on the foot and the folds in the cloth around the ankle and the back of the knee. That's one of the hardest aspects of the humanoid form to render, in my experience.

Not sure it works for me. That ref pic is just not nice.. She does seem a bit heavy for a SF babe.

Thanks for your input, fellows. Based on your crits, I made some corrections on her face. My goal is to make her face near to that shown on my 4th step. Please let me know what you guys think.

So here's a quick paint over I did, with mine on the top. I'm not saying to "simply cut the head and paste it". I was just trying to say that it looked really great at that phase and to use photoshop and get that head back in the picture. We have options like that with digital work, so why not?

The only thing I really did with your face, was take information out and simplify things. I would want to spend more time polishing it, but this can at least illustrate what I was talking about. For what it's worth, I would still go back and use the old head from stage four. It looks great, you can easily merge the two in photoshop and why not?
