Sazzle's Sketchbook - Scribbles of a control freak

This looks like a much better way of getting your artwork online than sites like deviant art where its a lottery as to whether anyone sees your stuff or not! For those who have seen my other posts dotted about you'll know that I've only being doing this digital art malarky for around a week and a bit.
I knew how to use photoshop before but my Wacom tablet was only bought for me a short while ago.

Guess should tell ya all a little about me. I've been doing freelance illustration for about 2 years now (analogue pen and paper only thus far) which unfortunately is not enough to pay the bills at the moment so I also work as a legal clerk.

I live in Sheffield in England, the land of the rain.

You should note - I am absolute crap a backgrounds so any help will be much appriciated.

Neways, thanks to all who have been so friendly since I started posting here, its nice to be in a community that really does give you CONSTRUCTIVE critisim!

Here is my most recent project. It's in the WIP section too as I could definately do with some hints and tips.

She is supposed to be an angel, rejected from heaven due to conspiring with the devil to bring chaos to heaven. I don't know whether to give her some sort of weapon or not. She looks a little more evil than I intended originally but actually I kinda like the whole 'pissed off' look now.

I've also never painted armour before so its going to be a challenge.

Is it sad that I'm the only one posting on my sketchbook? Ah well, it will act as a good memo journal for myself!

It's not sad at all, I was actually posting a reply at the same time as you, but you changed the picture and added another so I bit back until I could re-read it.

I'm from The west mids, I know how you feel about the rain, heh.

You might want to revise the way her stomache is placed above her hips, I think it's a tiny bit far to the side. (judging by those undie-things)

But that's pretty minor and I can't see anything else with my untrained eyes, I'd like to see this finished as the idea is badass.

    Just some friendly crits.

    *edit

Forgot the mention, that bug fairy alien thing is just too awesome.

Those aren't undies, I didn't realise that I'd cut off the layer. She is in fact wearing a long layered skirt so although her tummy looks a little wonky there, the whole dress is in line on my PSD drawing!

I'm glad you like monty the alien bug. My partner posed for the feet!

The midlands were the worst hit this week were they not? Hope your house isn't floating down a street at the moment! Cheers for the comments, I'll keep showing updates of this picture, I promise.

I like your works. In that first one with nice feet is very owesome linework. And in that devil-angel she can have weapon like controlling the fire or smt that fire could go out of her hands and make a spiral around her. That would be awesome. Keep posting, ill be waiting for new ones.

edit: and try to remove the glow around her hair, i think then it should blend better in background

I will get some more of my traditional drawing work up soon I promise.
However, I'm suffering with a sort of artists block at the moment.

I generally draw people and I feel like I need to get some more machines or creatures in my portfolio. Anyone got any ideas?

This was supposed to be a picture of a small mouse all curled up. Somehow it morphed in to my pet cat, mango!
Possibly needs a background of some sort, will work on it more tomorrow.

Some more stuff, this is all mostly traditional art as I have had to take a break from the wacom tablet. I've got tendonitous (RSI) in my wrists at the mo and its a bit too painful to use.

Your faces with the angels. they seem to be coming out a bit angula, this will tend to make her look more masculine then intended, you might want to work on that.

I wanted it to be angular. She is a warrior, I didn't want her face to be too rounded as I wanted to give a sense that she is almost androginous (forgive the spelling).

The go-kart is sweet but I think the rear tire should be visible. What medium did you use?

For the go cart it was a fine liner and some marker pens.
I did that for a computer games company. Yeah, they picked up on the rear wheel too, it was just a first try at vehicle drawing though so they didn't mind so much.

Do you think its worth colouring in the angel?

Okie kokie, here is my latest work in progress. I could really do with some help on this one. I just want to check that the anatomy of the face is all okay.
Any suggestions for hair or neck would be much appriciated!

Not a bad sketchbook, you've got an eye for detail and that'll get you pretty far. Watch out for that last face you posted: the paint job's not bad but the features of the face don't seem to be lining up in the perspective. Put some construction lines over it to check. Her right eye's not in it's socket either.

My suggestion would be to sketch more and give yourself only few minutes for one. I think it might give lot's more confidence, cause now i see only neat looking works. It's not bad, but you must know that dirty images doesn't mean bad images.
    So keep pushing!

It has been a very long time since I created this sketchbook and with 3 years in the games industry under my belt I've recently been made redundant.
Although this is kinda sucky, it does mean I have more time to dedicate to my artwork.

I'll kick start with some recent artwork!

You seem to control your lines in a very good way. That's one of your biggest strengths I believe.

The anatomy is kinda off in the portrait but it's not a catastrophe.

    Thank's Dreadful!

Yeah, my people anatomy is a bit screwy. As you can see from my more recent stuff, I've started to look at animal anatomy and nature which I feel a lot more comfortable with.
