Some violence from the new guy!

    Hey Guys,

I'm Nelson Blake II, and I'm new to this forum, but after a quick browse I see that this is the greatest forum in the history of forums! I mean, just wow. There are some artist's whose work I'm well familiar with, like Sparth and Bengal, but the rest of the work here seems to be a bottomless well of talent.

Some quick info: I'm 28, a professional comic book artist, storyboard artist and character designer. I guess that's all that matters. Like the rest of you, I love making pictures and stories, and I hope that while I'm on this forum I can get better and help other people do the same. Here are some pages from Orphan an OGN. The drawing and storytelling work very well. It is almost Toth-like in its simplicity.

i like these pages and i like your style.

small crit. On page 1, the first two panels blend together a little. The perspective matches up in both of them and my eyes see them as being the same space. Even the shadow on the buiding in the forground on the left looks as though it's being cast by the bridge above it. And the shadow on the street runs directly in the same direction as the bridge itself...which just reinforces the matching perspective lines.

I like the first panel. You may want to alter the second. Choose a differnt angle.

    Other than that...very nice.

I would actually try flipping the second panel, that might help.

That's a pretty good crit. I don't think it's so bad that I would redraw it(that book is 100 pages!) but that's a good observation. Thanks for taking a look guys!

If I were to change it, I'd totally change it, because right now it is composed for page flow. As it is, it has too MUCH page flow, lol.

Great work. My only crit is that the face of the character with the skull cap and knife is inconsistent, especially in the panel where he's lunging and screaming. It gets cartoony in a way the rest isn't.

the girl's wrist looks just a [I]teensy[I] bit thin to me, but otherwise it looks great. nice movement in the frames, and the allblack of her friend's cloak is nice, very F. Miller
Look, you know what I mean. You take a bunch of people who don’t seem any different from you or me, but when you add them all together you get this sort of huge raving maniac with national borders and an anthem.
