First post - works in progress

    Hi -

This is my first post here. There's a lot of really great work on these boards!

These are a couple of works in progress - the bust is a Bernini repro Ive been working on for a while and the figure is a chavant cast of a water based clay piece I did a year ago that Im cleaning up and refining.

Really nice pieces. Did you do the Bernini piece completely from photo reference? It's executed wonderfully! Something about it makes it feel a little tiny younger than the original sculpture, but it's still exquisite.

Is the male figure done from life?

    Hi -

    Thanks guys. :-)

Yes - the Bernini is entirely from photo ref - I found the Christies catalogue from when it was auctioned in the early 90s which has a number of great photos of the piece.

I agree - he does need a little age refinement - still tweaking the portrait in between working on the torso details & hair.

    Thanks for the feedback.

The bust is definitely my fav... just have one quick question for you if you don't mind me asking... is the clay you are using a water base or an oil and what kind or brand is it...

    Hi-

Thanks for the kind words! This has been a long project for me and the encouragement helps.

The clay is Chavant P40 - its a very hard industrial design clay.
