lovely work, Kev! I'm a big fan of your dashing brushwork. Now that's what I call inking.

Thanks to all. You guys are very generous with the compliments and it's much appreciated.
Staz?! Don't sell yourself short, man. You're work is sweet. Chin up!
So here's a pencil drawing ready for inking. I thought it would be cool to take a shot of it before I ruined it!This is a little more finished than usual because some complicated stuff is going on. Still a lot of form to work out in the inking stage. We'll see what happens.

Very nice drawing, Kev! I like the way it's pretty chaotic and abstract at a glance, but I really see what's happening anyway. Nice balance between the readable and the graphical.
Not that I really understand what's happening with this picture out of context, I guess I'd have to read the comic for that! No chance of buying this to Europe without a credit card? I hate not having a credit card.

Really nice vertical flow on this one, it will be interesting to see how the ink comes together.

Kev, I haven't posted here before but I've been a longtime fan of this thread. We're really lucky to have you here, and not just for your voice. I love the work - I love how there's always a strong compositional line or push in every image, and all the characters and elements spring from that. I especially like the smoke/ghost motif and how it plays throughout this story.
I've never read a deadrider/deadlander comic and I'm going to get some next time I go back to the states. One question - how much of this story is yours? Did you help create the characters and plot, or is your part mostly the artistic side? I read somewhere there were legal troubles and what not. Is there a point where the story was taken out of your hands that I should know about?
I really like the recent caricatures. Keep posting great art Kev!
TA, thanks. Yeah, the whole thing is me... story, art, coloring, lettering, and logo.![]()
Here's a step by step from this afternoon. From sketchy pencils to finished inks. As you can see, I made a lot of drawing decisions in the inking stage on this one.

Just came across your thread for the first time. Nice to see some traditional ink work by someone who has a distinct style. I can certainly see "the Studio" styles in your work like Staz mentioned.

You are a level 8 ninja and even though you have a lot of weapons sometimes your ninja moves are your most powerful.
Great stuff a definite Frazetta feel to your work!!
Your inking is always lush and detailed but a little indiscriminate about the space and sometimes difficult to read. With your laughing skeleton guy, for instance, you rely on scale change and a staccato rhythm to the blacks to suggest the space between the near hand and the skull, but similarity of blacks, detail, and line weights between the hand and skull make it feel like the thumb is glued to the chin.
While the fingers of the far hand more convincingly thrust into the distance, again the line weights and blackness of the lines denoting veins/tendons in the wrist flatten out too much. Kev, I've been as amazed and delighted with your work as everyone-else, and learned alot from your thoughtful crits of others' posts. You're too accomplished a draughtsman and painter to be unaware of these points, so I'm assuming the flattened space , the lack of "air", is something you mean to fix in the color stage.
But as Joseph Clement Coll demonstrates, there is a special beauty to ink work which considers space and air.

Great Stuff as always Kev!
For the process panel I can't help but thinking that the caption should read:

Clockworkj... fantastic inking!
Cory, I agree about that picture. When I brought it into photoshop to color it, I found I had to make an effort to separate out the hand from the face. I'm still not quite satisfied with it.
Anyhow, here's an inked page from issue 2...
