Did you know the manga called "Blade of the Immortal"? I think it feels like a samurai version of the dead rider. Hi Kev,

I'm not your typical comic reader but I've bought and enjoyed Deadlander and Dead Rider after seeing your work here and reading your crits. At first read of issue 1 I thought it was halfway through a story but on second read I realised you were setting up situations and characters. 5 stars on this thread from me.

I've also been inspired by you to get the bridgman books, now if only I could pluck up the courage to post some work on CA...

Thanks everybody! Very generous compliments! I'm particularly pleased with those of you who sought out Dead Rider and plunked down the 3 bucks. Mucho gracias Amigos!! It makes my day to hear that people are actually reading the stuff I do.

So here's some process shots of a few hours of today's work.... initial sketch... which I scanned in, scaled up in photoshop and printed out. The finished pencils which I did on bristol board on my lightbox over the printout of the initial sketch. And then the ink finish, which was all done in brush.

I really admire the way you have retained the silhouette energy of the original thumbnail right through to the inking - not an ounce has been lost!
Is that thumbnail sketch the first outing of the initial mental imagine in your head?
Wonderful way you have realised the shudder of a bullet's impact. And love the crafty use of the snaking neck scarf with the arm to bring your eye down to the half drawn gun from it's holster. ('underlined' by the hat shape and legs too!) Also, turning his right foot inwards is inspired - not having it sticking out means the gesture of the whole is kept focused and intact.

I love your style. I must say I like your inkwork more than your coloring, though your work is still great.
It reminds me of old American comics, it has a very curvy, organic feel that goes very well with action and inking details.

For some reason I like the little narrow one of the girl's head best. There is something rather 'you' about it - almost like a signature. I reckon I would know it anywhere.
Were these rejected by the client? I assume you cannot post the accepted stuff due to copyright etc.
PS, seeing that 'Alien verses Predator' again is a real treat.

Something has just crossed my mind seeing the work from the last 4 or 5 posts you have made: You seem very fond of the 'hook form' or curling gesture - it crops up in the large elements (as in the alien predator) and very much in the smaller elements. Obviously it is at its most distinct at the contour, as in the guy who has just been shot, but also occures within the forms. It always speaks to me of a writhing, restless energy.
I think it is possibly over used at times - the last images you have posted are what flagged this up to me I guess. There is a tendency for it to mitigate the form sometimes much in the manner of barnacles on a racing hull.
It's not something I have been aware of before - only till now with these most recent images and maybe it is one of the reasons I liked the little face, since it was 'cleaner'. The first image was 'cleaner' too but lacked other qualities. The fish one just gets away with it because of its coral like subject.
It's hard to be precise with these examples because I'm not really sure about their intended context but I hope I'm making some kind of sense.
Just a thought.
Oh, one other thing - that image of yours a page or so back of the guy getting blasted through the saloon window - I keep thinking about it!!!
