Great stuff! I haven't read all the other posts in detail, so you might have already addressed this, but does Deadlander have anything to do with the old Deadlands roll playing game?
I used to play the ccg based on Deadlands and there are some similarities to what I've seen of your comic. You can see what I'm talking about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadlands

Thanks Wendigo. I had never heard of Deadlands, but I just looked at the wikipedia url you included in your post and it sounds very cool. And (luckily, whew!) very different from my story.

Actually I think I inked that in about 30 minutes. And it took me about the same to draw it. But when I get into it I sort of lose track of time almost totally. So don't quote me on the time frame!

EDIT: No way I did that piece in a hour. Apologies. It must've been at least two or three hours, then left for a while and touched up later that night.

love the fluid motion in that last one dude. one question though: do you have any inkwork examples of fire, or do you leave that for painting? because water and fire have always seem to be the most difficult elements to capture, no matter what the medium.

Dabaers, Yeah, I totally agree. On fire: I tend to do the smoke, and leave a high contrast area where the fire would be. Like the logs on fire would be broken up black shapes, and I would leave white where the flames would be. And then maybe use the area around the flames to give an indication of the movement of the flames. But the rendering of the actual flames, which I rarely do, is usually a color thing. If I find some examples from my work, I"ll post it up.

I just finished reading the issue and I loved it! Man, that's some good artwork in there. I love how you did the page numbers. Looking forward to the next issue. Hope you include some sketches if this series is collected in a tpb.

As a side note, they are printing new Tales from the Crypt comics now. All original stories. I'd love to see your work in there. As it stands now, the artwork isn't all that great. Kind of sad considering the artists that worked on it before.

Are you going to colour up that last ink (the whirlpool)? I love it's rhythmical-ness.

I don't buy comics, but I may just have to pick up a copy of Deadlander - I'm dying to know the story.

I remember you once made a post in a thread about the hardest things in art, or something along that line, and you said it was the duality in art that you found most difficult, the thinking and execution of all the different principles of art at the same time (something like this anyway).

As a beginner artist, I really struggle with the thought of how I'm going to accomplish all these principalities, it's mind boggling. I mean, you talk about the techniques of the pen and brush, and it seems like there's a universe of knowledge and skills to be learned just with these tools.
I would be in your debt, if you would so kindly impart with me some inspirational words, or perhaps how you dealt with this yourself when you were learning.

I picked up the 1st issue and I have to say you certainly put a lot of love into it. It simply oozes Wrightson, Frazetta and old EC comics, my fingers are still sticky from it! Wow Kev, this is such a hugely inspiring thread! You have such a way of capturing movement yet keeping things refined with enough detail to keep the eye interested. There is much to be learnt from this thread, in pictures and wise words. I shall endeavor to study! And I was reading through the inspiration post you made back on page two, about believing in what you do, and it gave me goosebumps and made me even more determined to... well... just draw and love what I do, so thank you for that.

Oh yes!!! I have a question!!!

How much do you think if say a novice should practice everyday with a brush?
I wanna practice inking but I haveta practice other things too(like digital colouring)...not to mention putting my assignments 1st...arrr so many stuff I wanna learn...
