A very awesome and inspiring thread indeed; but the thing that caught my attention the most is: you are the first and only artist I've seen who can both talk about the spiritual/philosophical side of art, and demonstrate these impressions to the viewer of your works at the same time. Usually I've seen only people who can brag about deep art meanings but their work suggest the opposite of what they say.
Very awesome works ! I'm going to try to find me a copy of Deadlander.
By the way, your joke sucks ,man. LOL
Heyy Kev, just got my copy of Deadlander in the mail yesterday. I am not lying when I say that the artwork inside is better than any other comic book I have read in the past 4 years. Only crit, Moar action!
Beautiful work Kev. Your inks are whimsical.Keep them coming.

There's a comic book store down the street, I'm going there after work, gonna ask for deadlander. Great work man. With all your philosophizing, I'm sure the story's got to be killer like the art.
You're an artist, not a meat camera. -Elwell
So much to learn from you Kev... good work.

You've been helping me out so much since I've been here, but this is the first time I've gotten to see your art (I dont know why I didnt look before). Your works are outstanding!! Keep it up![]()
I'm not crazy about your colors, they all look to "washed out" nothing comes at the viewer in terms of balance. Although you did have a nice effect going on with the cowboy zombie thing in the door way.
You're pen and ink pieces are to much Frazetta like, with a few pieces having way to much going on in them. Near the top there I can't make out what is going on at all in the piece next to the guy swinging the sword at the one on the horse.
You do have a lot of skill too, but I think you need to find a little more balance in what you're trying to say in each piece. Keep up the great work though, you're figure studies were nice.
dude you are a billy! your work reminds me alot of John R. Neill (illustrator of oz) keep it up
Kev...I'd be a fan of yours now...such great works you have here...perfect understanding of anatomy and perspective and lay-out and emotion. I used to doodle in comic illustration before, really love lines and brush strokes. I have a question, how big is your original paper where you illustrate your comics? And what kind of paper do you use? Would it be ok if it's glossy? You see here in the Philippines, I can't find the right art materials. Tell me pls what best paper to use in comics illustration. Hope to see more of your works in the future. Thanks.
Well, awesome sb, subscribed, waiting for the updates![]()
I'm sorry for kind of "resurrecting this" however;
I just bought the first Deadlander while at the workshop (in the Pike's place Market).
How can I say this;
BUY THIS COMIC, PRONTO.
It's 3 dollars. I've never been a huge comics fan. I've looked and read and looked more- Manga to Marvel. Even classics... Ronin for example- I didn't like it. I'm extraordinarily picky, and need to have good INK, good COLOR, and good story/dialog, and so far this is the only comic that I could get totally in to without saying "man this color/ink sucks" or "Man that was a cheesy line to say". There is a major lack of ugly in this comic, as well as a major lack of cheese, lame, and fail. Success however, is abounding.
Thx for stopping by my sketchbook. Great you like my art
You know I dig your stuff too! Keep up your fantastic work!
Best,
Chris

When your doing the Deadlander stuff do you use reference?
When I need it, sure. I have an old-school GI Joe doll, a mirror, a digital camera which I use to take shots of myself, and lots of reference files I gathered which are organized by category (women, trees, animals with four legs, men's suits, etc.). I have several coffee table books of photographs of Horses. I have made heads out of clay of the characters in the story.
I try to do the most drawing I possibly can out of my imagination, and quite often I don't need reference. But if you are drawing something so poorly it will ruin the story you are trying to tell, reach for the reference.
I always proceed from my imagination. I am a firm believer in pre-visualizing. No matter if I work wholly from my imagination or use sources, it all is there to help the pre-visualized idea of the picture along.
By the way, since I haven't posted on this thread in months, I see my stars have been knocked down to 4 from 5. If you like the work, please cast a vote on the thread. Thanks.

Thank you to everybody! I'm really glad you guys like this stuff!!
So, here's the thing. Deadlander has become Dead Rider with the second issue. Some of you probably can figure out why. Let's just say, lawyers got involved.
Talk about being blown off course.
Anyhow, the second issue is out and I really hope those who are enjoying the work will enjoy the comic as well.
So there's the spam portion of our show.
So here's some art, just a few black and white tidbits from the next issue, some of which is not going to make the final edit.
I'll post some complete pages with dialogue later in the week.
