Fuish's Sketchbook: New Art April 24 2010

EDIT: The first page of art is REALLY OLD stuff, I just updated with the work I'm doing now for galleries/etc... I paint/make custom toys/design plush and resin toys/characters/freelance for a living.

Alright let's start the first post off with a history of my sucky art, up to the present day art I do now.

Progression chart time!
Do realize I was 14 in 1998... it's a sad sad drawing I know.
I'll update with some jazz from my actual sketch pad later.

Nice start. The older stuff isn't bad at all. You're very good at this type of manga. Do you have any life drawings, figure studies? It would be good to post some of that too.

Okay, this is a 12 minute sketch/selfportrait, I was going for 30 minutes but my comp froze up on me and I couldn't finish. So enjoy this til I finish it.

Update: 45 minutes total, I know it's not great, feel free to crit. I haven't done a self portrait in over a year! O_O I need more practice.

Your going to CCAD right, I seen your posts on the art schools section of the forums. Ill be a freshmen there this upcoming fall. Nice worx, I agree with Zombie, the SP is looking very nice, maybe clean it up a little. Cant wait to see more of your current work.

Envisor: Actually Envisor, I graduated from CCAD almost a year ago. And thanks for the feedback, I'm going to be trying to do the self portrait thing every day or every other day depending on what I have going on. ^^

New Sketches:

Turphin, the mutant love child from the dolphin/turtle piece I did a while back, it was called "A Curious Love" I'm going to finish this one up too, but I just wanted to share the sketches.

A few others too, Leopard Geckos, mermaids, mytes and some tabasco fan art... don't ask, I just really love tabasco, I need to finish it, it got deleted when my comp crashed... >_< I'll never learn will I? Save save save, Backup Backup!

mofongo: Thanks, I think everyone should take a few minutes and put a progression time line together, it's so helpful for others to see where you came from and it's fun!

Hi Squiditch,

I like Mr. Squii. He is very cute and has a nice range of expressions for a character sheet. You may want to add a couple of extreme expressions that push the design a bit. You have surprised but what would shocked look like or angry. Also the colors are nice and simple but I would experiment with different color schemes like complimentary or triadic.
My favorite (and please post a larger version) is the squidmaid with the black tentacles/skirt. I also like the characters that you have an outline around better then the ones without (personal taste).
Your self portrait is a pretty solid drawing. I would go back to it. It needs to have more defined lighting (I am not sure where your strongest light source is) and more contrast.

I look forward to seeing more work.

I'll give a more in depth response later, but the squid maid is not mine, it's fanart of Klar's character Nen... :/ and she's a beta not a squid... lol

You've got some really cute stuff. I really like the whale and the octopus, but I agree with Felicia that you should try some different expressions. Not just with mr.Squii but with all your characters.
