Yeah the disks didn't come out as i wanted them too. the whole design kind of tumbled around too. i wanted something to work as a kind of companion piece to that white mech powersuit guy i did a few pages back. something using a similar technology. he has floating fist-knuckle-parts. she could have flying disks or something. i'm going to come back to the ideas later though.

The grey-scale hottie above kinda takes me back to that great era of artists like N.C. Wyeth, J.C. Leyendecker, Maxfield Parrish and Howard Pyle.

i found a brush that works nice for simulating traditional brushpen stuff--can't post it because it's steve jung's though. i just set both my brush and my eraser to that same brush and then cut the black shapes back and forth. these are just experimental doodles. i really liked doing the brushpen studies in john park's mech design class.

anyway, i think 2011 was good for me just because i had to do a lot of photoshop work at gentle giant. i think i was maybe doing too much traditional stuff for industry work situations. these last two classes over at red engine have kind of pushed me into approaching digital work more painterly instead of relying on scanning in a traditional drawing all the time. i feel like i'm getting a little looser, so it's fun.

jephyr_x Thanks! i like all those old illustrators, so that's really cool to hear. steve did a demo of a bladerunner-futuristic chick holding an umbrella on sunday; i'm going to try to do the same with a bunch of variations. this is just a starting point for it.

sorry for the thread bump. this kind of brushpen stuff really is pretty fun. i need to play around with something sequential one of these days...

there are about 10 days left in the year, so i'm thinking i'm going to try to do 100 of these before 2012-01-01, starting today. hopefully i'll get them all done; i did gesture/perspective scribbles of about 50 of them today. i'll post them when i get there.

i'm flying back to IL tomorrow. probably won't logon until next year. so...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

i didn't get all 100 done--had family illnesses and emergencies to deal with. i will probably switch gears (pardon the pun) to do other studies now. maybe enviroments, maybe characters.

anyway, i hope everyone's year started off well.

so i goofed around some more. i want to do a quick series of studies of an "umbrella girl" --sorayama, elf/fantasy, 1920's, etc. this is a step-by-step of sorts. 1) nude girl 2) "chrome" version 3) colorize those two. 4) use masks to create variations.

this was just a test of sorts. i'll redo all of this crap better later
