more work on the hair. if i get in another week of work on it, there will be a lot more progress. still no word about teaching... maybe they bailed on me.
prsnsweeney--would've been in van nuys--pretty close to you in santa clarita, all things considered.
cukierass--thanks! no problem. i just have to remember to take WIP shots when i do stuff.
Ludic--clay. Chavant NSP Grey-Green Medium hardness. (NSP= Non-Sulfur Plasteline) it's a kind of oil-based clay.
Mactire--Thanks!
karnatina--Thanks! Very kind of you to say that.

returning the favor - love all this bro, looks like pure fun and relaxation. if i had to describe all this into one word it would be "escapism".
Hope everything is good with you and let's chat some time soon bro,
cheers!
awesome sculpture! Is it done? Or are you gonna keep adding detail to it?

Great stuff around here and so many directions! Thank you for sharing the process and everything that goes around in the industry. Keep up the inspiring stuff!![]()
awesome traditional stufff!! i love it all.. subscribed![]()
Long time since I've been by, love what you have been doing lately. I've been meaning to look at that custom shapes tutorial since a friend of mine mentioned it but I totally forgot about it. Looks awesome, thanks for updating.
Your work is a joy to look at. I especially love the way you construct faces.
was inpired by charlie wen's workshop so i just decided to work on my character design chops. nothing too original here. i need to fix a few things i did wrong in the drawing... graphite in a giant moleskine, then PS on top of it.
gotta keep it really quick tonight:
Ayem--Thanks!
jedininjaman--Thanks man! That tutorial is pretty sweet. i wish i had more time to play with it.
oma--Thanks!
reika--Thanks! Take everything i said with a healthy dose of skepticism. i can be pretty moody and i'm breaking into the industry through a very tiny back door. there are at least as many cool people as jackasses despite how pessimistic i sound at times.
my57-- needs a lot more work. i have lost my sculpture stands, so i'm putting it on hold for a little bit.
sickbrush--thanks man, it's all escapism compared to LA traffic.

I love that you left the gestural, quick shapes on this last one. Really solid looking... and the guy looks powerful, too. And if Mick Jagger saw that guy's lips, he would be shamed
More please![]()

Fantastic work as always Chris, great work on that sculpture and that character (nearly vehicle?!) design, though those lips do look a little odd now.
Anyway, looking forward to more!!
dam grat sketch book you have going here.
CREEPTOOL'S SKETCH BOOK please feel free to critique my sketchbook
Cool snaps from Japan and GREAT Eastwood piece!
Cool design, and the sculpture is looking great too. Love the hair.
pushed a few pixels so the lips wouldn't be so distracting. fixed some stuff with the mech hands, did some more rough rendering. whatever.
p sage--Thanks! i'll post more as soon as my hands stop cramping.
MacTire--Thanks man!
creeptool--thanks!
The Flying Dutchman--Thanks, but the eastwood piece was done by Sebastien Kruger, the famous illustrator and painter. i went to his workshop last year in santa barbara. you should check him out online. there's a ton of stuff.

Popping in to say hi!
Very slick, man. The relationship between your light and dark armor pieces looks spot on to me. Digging the continued attention to sculpture, too.
great stuff Chris! I should just move my A$$ to SoCal to take some great classes! sigh..

staticpen--Thanks man. Sorry I've been out of touch.
kevinwueste--Thanks Kevin! ...but I think you're way too good for most classes down here. I'm doing these instead of going to class for the time being.
bebbo--Thanks! hopefully this will be done soon. there are other designs i want to work on.

a bit more work. the background gradient is just there to help me judge my values.
VelocityKendall--Thanks! I really appreciate it. Your stuff is great!
prsnsweeney--Thanks! yeah, i was feeling nostalgic today. I'm glad they have something posted. the way the old drawing knowledge spread from fine art to illustration is very interesting. if anything, it helps justify that illustrators and illustration should be taken seriously.
Jean-Leon Gerome --> George Bridgman --> Frank Reilly --> Fixler --> Westermoe/Orbik, etc. --> all of the rest of us doofuses.
that's quite a f'ing legacy, right?

those new feet look bad ass really like the design and i think it fits better with the overall design of the suit
another design today. same kind of technology. dabbled with creating a spherical font.

These are some sample images of stuff i've done for work at Gentle Giant Studios. the length of time i get to spend on each thing varies a lot. sometimes i have time to render, sometimes i get to noodle in graphite or use gray paper, sometimes it's just hit-and-run. but it's a fun mix of stuff to draw, and it's actually a bit of a challenge to design from the waist-up.
anyway, there's a lot more i can't show. but i hope they get released soon.
