    life drawings-a-go-go (whatever that means) - 4/25

I was pretty comfortable w/ my drawing style for awhile, but then steak-tron introduced me to CA and everything changed. I started drawing a lot more, tried drawing different ways, and I currently find myself experimenting w/ these different ways to draw. I want to draw more from life and reference, as opposed to imagination(as suggested countless times on these forums), and see what comes of that. The CA community rules, Austin ruled, and drawing is fun. yay.
Here's some coro-inspired drawings of people and things in Austin. The scans are a bit dirty and bad. My proportions are wiggidy wiggidy wack and I know there's lots of room for improvement. Let me know what other things I should/could work on. I'll keep drawing.

my 3 roommates are on this page

    at the Awarehouse and hotel

at IHOP and La Quinta 202/203

this page features my lame entry in the final night of the 202/203 Thunderdome. metaphysiks got me but good.

last day in Austin, drawing at IHOP, hotel, and airport.

Hey hey hey! Welcome to the daily sketchbooks! This is where the real men (and women) hang out. I've already told you before I really like your inks, your hatching style is great, especially when applied to my gut

    Thanks for the avatar too!

do u know the meaning of useless strokes? I think not, cuz for real, you have no useless lines in your work at all. It's like, once you lay the line down its the perfect line - pretty damn admirable, man. it shows mad skills.

also, i gotta say that you seemed to capture the likeness of a lot of these people pretty well. like that doodle of metaphysiks on page 4 - looks just like how i remember him. another thing i admire is the sheer number of doodles you've made - how quick did you spend on each one?

anyways, your ink skills are badass - how bout posting some of your pencil or paint or digital work? And how bout posting a piece you spent a little more time on?

I WANT TO SEE MORE DAMMIT.

    oh, and btw

YEA! Triumphant beginning to the awesome-ness that is el-Lucien's sketchbook! I love everypage man, even more so in person. Not only are the likeness dead on but I love the intensity of the table objects, the hotel rooms, and the hatching. You started with an object and created an incredibly engaging scene of controlled lines. Leaven me thirsty for more... and i'm not the only one. Lookout, your a hopless posting addict now like the rest of us (i hope).

Hope all is well in the ATL (unintended rhyme). drop me a line some time man, well go sketching or some sheeeitt, maybe reunite some of the dirty south CA posse. (one the streets yo.)

I had a great time hanging with you in Austin Roy, glad you came along (how would i have gotten through the airport?)

one question... wheres the shrimp of burden?! you had the whole room rolling.

-and to everyone else, this man is hard-core, he drew non-stop every day o' the workshop!

    Word!

man i look hot! lol elboy these things are so nice man. the use of pen is really cool to your not afraid to just let things go. some things are disporportioned *sp but it doesnt hurt the whole piece....there is a kind of honesty in each of these sketches. keep drawing and posting man...i will when i get back to school due to my current website being a complete bitch. keep up the good work man.

    these are oldies

wow, the CA community is so kind. I have been drawing since Austin (how could any of us not?), but I haven't scanned any of those images yet. I do have some old stuff from my last year at school and the year after I graduated when I wasn't drawing so much. Like I wrote before, I was pretty comfortable drawing in this style until I found CA and my drawing life was forever changed. I don't dislike this style, but I feel that doing studies and drawing from life and reference will only help me, even if I decide I want to draw cartoony.

    dakoscwash, Angela- thank you much.

Groover - so much for the avatar, huh? I still have the psd I never sent you, but you did some nice right-click, save, cut and resize action. you're quite the update machine.

meta - I tried more than once to view your sketchbook, but both my home computer and the computer at work froze. Hopefully I'll get to see your stuff once you and danny get the site up.

Syrogen - pork chops cooked on the George Foreman grill are good~. thanks.

cotron - whatever, pen control. my drawings are tiny compared to yours, plus I'm taking much more time than you. yours have that nice loose quality while mines do not. We are the Future (H.O.T. reference). oh yea, like the stuff in the el coro fanart section.

    fukifino - I hope to do some salty inks in the future.......... -.,-;;

Slash - yea, issues w/ money stink. hopefully you can make it to a future workshop.

    artkitty - meow.

Dahsramu - ehh, I have a bad concept of time. I probably spent anywhere from 1 - 10 mins (?) on the people, not including environments. I'll post some pencil stuff, and you're about to see the extent of my digital so far. Respect to you, champion of La Quinta Thunderdome 202 (the previous night).

van - I bow to the wonder of mighty updates.

qstom - that guy was pretty nice, once I got past his octopus for a head.

steak-tronicus - I have you to thank for discovering the goodness that is CA, so thanks to you. So much for me being a posting addict, huh? As far as being hardcore, yea, I drew everyday at the workshop. Just like.... EVERYONE ELSE!!

Pitvipr - yea, I too am impressed w/ the number of Georgians here. We must be draw good er sumthin.

jetpack forty-two - that's not all groover showed us. oh wait, yes it is. update or no update, I hope you're still making your horse a winner.

jaggyo - when you say 'hate' do you mean 'love?' and when you say 'suck' do you mean 'rule?' and when you say 'cry' do you mean 'dance w/ joy?' I gots 3 words for you. draw draw draw. ^^

liam.c - my thunderdome won based on concept. The drawing is quite mediocre, but I might post it.

groovesteak mcnab-tron - didn't I already reply to you guys?

Crunchy Paul-nut butter (ewwww) - you're alive! good to hear from you. it's understandable if you aren't posting, but it's unforgivable if you're not drawing. I look forward to seeing your stuff once you get website stuff worked out. In the mean time, take it easy, greasy.

egads, so many words. where are the pictures?

self-promo postcard for illustration class. there's a me for every season. pen-drawn, ps-colored.

dual plate etching. don't mind the perspective. it's all about the plaid.

trying to work on storytelling. drawn in pen, colored in ps.

    same deal as above.

At this rate, my next update will be in 2 months. Keep drawing, people.

LOL. the self promo postcard and the comic strips are hilarious! the last one reminds me of the bengal drawing that had the girl with a bloodied pencil and the dude on the ground with bandaids over his butt.

why two months?! better be a HUGE update if its gonna take that long! :hh:

Elman - These are great! I love the style, and your sense of humor and personality really show through. My fave has to be the postcard, although I hope you don't really just stand still when attacked by bees.

wowowow, i agree. that top one made me laugh too, especially the one with the beehive. hilarity ensued! what exactly is a dual plate etching? don't worry about answering if its really long and complicated. you've got a cute little thing going here, the kind of thing I could see on greeting cards or kids storybooks. I realllllllllllllllllllllllly dig the pen sketches from before, though. These are old, and successful, so I feel I've cheated you out of something constructive...sorry.

oh...here you go. The left hand in the etching is MONSTEROUSLY huge. haha!

my horse hasn't been winning so often as I'd like him to, but he's been racing every day at least.

Thanks for the insightful comments in my sketchbook...I really appreciate it. You make good observations.
