    {► d's dimension: the zombie is DEAD! (crap update - don't bother. srsly.) ◄}

Been meaning to start a new sketchbook nya for some time, old one was getting too crowded. Besides that I can't seem to get into my old one, just won't go.

These are just some head studies I'm doing, got all the older ones in a collage as to not bore you with details. Hope you like, c&c always welcome.

will update with some more later!
    ciao!

These are looking very nice man. I especially like the old men (how you can still see a part of the linework) and the old lady in the lower left of the collage. The first one in the collage seems mighty impressive too, would love to see a bigger version of that one. Nice work.
Have you tried a gray background and working with highlights and shadows? Cause now I see black backgrounds where light was added and white backgrounds where shadow was added (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). Might be cool to try something in between. Just a suggestion.

    ~outdated~~~

    Hey peeps

thenass: Muchthanx bud, appreciate the comments. The yellow ones effectively speaking grey (starting off with a midtone), but I find that often a grey background seems to make the drawing a bit dull, it's very difficult to get something truly lively and striking going for me. But thanx for the suggestion, I'll give it a try. Muchthanx for stopping by mate.

Just some old - very old - drawings. will update with more recent ones once I can find them...

    from figurestudy class, life drawings:

please excuse the quality of these, my camera not so hot and I don't have a scanner....

One more head, a return to pencil reminded me how much attention this department still required, and how much I've slacked... will have to give it more attention.

Rushed uh? If it makes you feel better you could call it a tonal study, then its awsome! heh. With the newest one, seems his right eyelid is at a strange angle compared to his eye. Only crit I can come up with, at least. And I love your shading btw, I knew there was a reason I've been drawing all those straight lines.

    Doodlwey woodlewey,
First of all I have some requests here. Can you please not give link to imageshack in your pics, cuz I always end clicking them and going to imageshack, instead can you link the pics to their bigger resolution scans?
If you could do that .it'd be great.Doodling,it looks easy and loose but for a learner these traits are hard to get .I see that you are holding yourself back from experimenting almost like you are afraid of failing.I believe that success only tastes sweet after you have tasted the bitter failure. So dont hold yourself back.Try not to be tense when sketching.I myself am trying to follow the words i just said.

    Good stuffs, rated!

Very firm grasp of the forms of the faces. I'm also very impressed by the folds of the clothes.

    Looking forward to more.

    Yo peeps

bhanu: Buchothanx a munch man, that's the kind of advice I need bro. Muchthanx for reminding me. Half of your request has been met, bro. Unfortunately I'm keeping the images as small as possible (especially the unimportant ones) as I'm paying for every mb I upload and download. This will change once I change service provider. Please bear with me until....
    muchothanx for stopping by bro!

Thestjester: Muchothanx for stopping by dude, really appreciate the comments.

    Hey man,
Ok first things first I saw that doodle pic of yours had was heavier than my biggest pics.It was like 250 kb.My biggest ones dont go beyond 170 kbs.SO just see if you can get the sixe down a bit.The sculptural feel to the study is jaw dropping again. But thats nothin new, you are very good at it.The last update begins a bi stiff.I guess you started with the face.It looks stiff. But as you go sideways and downwards the line starts flowing. You are making improvement. The Wes factor only helps .I have the printouts of his works alwasy in my sketchbook, alongwith works of lukias, mentler and Hurricane.Just keep working on the line. Also why dont you do some gestural studies.
Take care and keep grinding the lead.

    ~Buchothanx a munch~

    Oi! Muchothanx a bunch dudes!

oma: muchothanx, will do. Yep, think there are quite a few Caravaggio between the bunch, one of my favourites because of his emphasis on light.

mentler: Ha! I welcome you to my NEW humble thread! MUCHthanks Bonedaddy, I am very grateful for your support and inspiration and for tSoFA!

bhanu: You're right - just had to look to find a way to reduce this little bugger's size to little more than a third of the original. I actually started with the fold in the arms, believe it or not. From there the rest of the image developed, almost subconciously, never "figured" the balance or proportions out, just went with what felt right (think the proportion are a bit dodgy). But yes you are right - the face is stiff, mainly because I decided to render it and tried get the linework ready for that. I still do gestural studies but I rarely post them as they are often done in textbooks, on briefs, notes, tests and the like.

Thanx for stopping by, all favours will be returned if not already.
    ciao!

    wutup man,
Phantom of the opera.Hmm..The feel and texture is quite good.I love your approach to hatching. But there are some basic problems .The guys head is bigger than that of the girls.Actually the guys is much bigger than the girl .Its like a gaint with a girl or a midget witha guy.Like your unfinished drapery.
But the cape on the girls body is looking too flat.Which in turn makes the girls torso look flat. The falling leaves look good.
    Keep drawing and take care.

~Marko has smiled up on me~

    Yo peeps!

elisa: Muchthanx, glad you liked. Have already returned the favour.

bhanu: muchthanx man. I intended to make the dude a lot bigger than the dudess in a sort of "beauty and the beast" theme. The girls not suppose to have a cape, but the weak handling of the hairline and jawline has made one appear. Absolutely right about it looking flat, will need to work on that.

Anyway, no update for now, but something quite interesting... found this pic of Marko Djurdjevic. No offence Marko, but the haristyle just aint me man. However, once I read your shirt I knew f'sure that you were definitely omfgroxxxxxor!!!111!!!!one!! shot dude - you own, love your shit, cheers man!

~please do not read this bold text~

    Sup

two more doodles, doing some character designs as part of a character-modelling assignment, will be posting lots more. It's painfully obvious that these are inspired by Wes, but it's also obviously painful to try and compete with his level of skill... like all the previous doodles these are from imagination:

    Hey Bro,
Whats wiht you and beaked men.You seem to draw them a lot.Doodling.Wes has a great sketchy lines say much more than our rendered ones .His simple lines on the bottom show his strength and his confidence in his lines.WE dont have that quality yet.So I really think you should not just doodle the lower end.Try explaining form too and try being slow and as informative in those lines. His style shoudlnt be the concern in your studies, rather his strengths.
    Take care and keep posting.

~bird people bird people - talk like people, taste like bird~

haha - always liked the idea of beaked dudes, especially after seeing Mentler's versions of them. Think trying to describe the bottom areas with rough line only is a great way to practice your line, which is what I'm trying to do. Also don't want to really give 3d to the part that don't matter - I don't have time to do everything, and doing a rendered halfjob is worse than nothing, imo. So I'm leaving these areas reletively flat, in the hope that they will fall back, lend attention to the more detailed areas, and just help the viewer to complete the image. But I absolutely agree with you - there is a lot of work to be done in this department: I'm on it!

Thanx for dropping by bhanu, always appreciate your insightful crits.
    ciao!

    Now those updates look big,literally.
First one looks great. There is more value in your line this time. Most of the hatching and all lines otherwise too are serving their purpose. And that is great.Coloring the previous doodle.Remember the creature you had drawn with pencil and colored it digitally and I told you it lacked .This ones a great improvement.Your color arent destroying the hatching or the basic pencilling. The form are bautifully described.
    Great Job mate.
