THe last one is great. Have you ever tried to use one of those pencils from home depot. THe big fat rectangular carpenters pencils? The way your strokes are falling I think it would be a great tool.

Yandor - thanks! I never used such tool. Of course I could draw those dots with the side of the pencil but I wanted the SP to look sharper.

I think I have fallen into routine so here is a bit different view. The tool is charcoal pencil. It's a bit like black crayon.

    nice work farvus!

one suggestion though, take the chiarascuro tonal range that you used in this one and do another SP, pushing all the values to the max. try expirementing with light placement...two lights on either side and slightly behind makes for a really nice, interesting lighting situation...render like hell and try to "GO OFF" on the details of the nose...All that shading is difficult...refuse to let it intimidate you and show it who's the big bad farvus boss.

oh yeah--> THIS ROCKED MY WORLD! great thread! we can see you learning!

    keep going! keep going!

guggenmaneuver - thanks for visiting my thread. Self portraits are generally good for practicing realistic rendering. I sometimes do more detailed SP's and sometimes they are just fast doodle. It's a matter of how I feel every day. Right now I have one place where I can put mirror and lamp but I will try to use different lights.

Here is some ultra fast and loose self portrait done with pen.

Alday.J - Thanks! It's rather that I needed to put a lot of energy into this drawing

I wanted to try using a bit of Zdzislaw Beksinski shading technique. Here's the result.

yoshimitstu - Thanks. It takes me about half an hour to do one SP, I think.

Bad proporions (too wide) but I post it anyway. I made my nose too short and by correcting it I made a mess. That's why the final result is Farvus the Clown

    Hey Farvus!

Szkice wyglądają coraz lepiej . Doradziłbym ostrzejszą "walkę" z ołówkiem, więcej linii pomaga odnaleźć się w rysunku i nadaje głębi (szczególnie w partiach z cieniem). Dzięki temu można też wyrzucić nierówności lewej i prawej strony twarzy (widać je szczególnie przy odwróceniu rysunku). Adjustment może tu wiele pomóc.

Praca w PSie fajna (ale zawsze usta i nos "omijasz" z detalem...)

    Anyway nice job!

glikster - thanks for dropping by.
Moreha - problem polega na tym że dużo linii sprawia że wyglądam jak dziadek . Dzięki za rady.

This one looks strange to me.

try doing a contour one! ^^ the last one looks nice...some of the planes of the face are ambiguous though.
