    Hookswords' sketchbook

Well....I enjoy looking through the sketch books here as much as everyone else, I'm sure. I thought it only fair to return the favor. I'm trying to develop my body of work in this digital format and this might help in that a bit. Critique is welcome. I got my wacom about 8 months ago and I'm loving it. This website has helped my abilities a great amount so its seems a fitting place to post a sketch book. Hope you enjoy

I did this at work today. I was, what my boss refers to as, "mandatory volunteer" today. So in the down time of this a doodled a little. I have come to love flashcards. I dont know what it is about them, but they are great. This is the only decent doodle from todays manditory volunteering.

This is a character I developed a while back for a comic. Recently I've been drawn back to the character group he belongs to.

I loves me some video games. I still play Neverwinter Nights a lot. Mostly for the great role playing. Most if not nearly all MMORPGs lack actual role playing. Anyway, I was bored one day and drew one of my characters and posted it on the forum for the server I play on. The result was tons of e-mails asking that I draw other people's characters. Here's a few.

this one wasnt a character, but something from the same realm. This was actually a birthday gift for a fellow player.

a lot of these were done some time ago. Many were done quickly so I never really finished them. Things like metal effects...stuff like that wasnt really polished.

This is some daily sketch stuff from CG networks.

This one was funny. Do a H.P. Lovecraft book as if it were a children's book. I did "Curious Cthulu"

This was fun too. "Star Wars if it was in ancient china"

    Yoda

    Chewbacca

Death Star (Return of the Jedi version)

Really nice sketchbook you have Hook,
The concepts and everything is good but one thing does feel kinda weak to me and thats the outline ,Its not uniform somewhere thick and somewhere thin.It seems you dont have confident while doing them, just like me.
    Again nice sketchbook man ,
    Keep posting.

    Cool stuff !
Those pics look good, but how about some studies ?
The colors look good but your should work more on the shading with pencil.
Do whatever you want, but it'be cool if you could do so

Bhanu- yeah, still getting used to the wacom. And I dont think I've truely found a definite style yet. I'm not really sure if that's good or bad. I would like to be able to consider myself versitile.

Recursive_End- heh.... since i got my wacom i've been trying to color my work. I usually sketch in blues ( a throwback to the old days ). I could post some of those in the future. I do have a lot of my older sketches on disk, maybe I'll post some of those soon. I just got a scanner too, so I can more freely post some more sketches.

    thanks cats!

Nice sketchbook - very strong style shines through. The combination flamethrower-kukri made me crack up when I first saw it.

Here are some skeches from todays "Mandatory volunteering". I had a little more time and boredom today. Presented in order, as to show the conditions my brain went through during the "Mandatory volunteering".

Just some chick. I was trying to think up a pose for another piece I'm working on. I ended up with something enirely different.

A character from the above mentioned comic. (A few pics above too.)

This was some cat in line at teh volunteering.

    Another villian from the comic.

Here is something greatly unfinished. I've posted it for the sake of the "Sketchbook". An idea in progress. I had no real goal when I sat down for this. I just started drawing. I sketch in blues, so I changed it to greyscale to make it a bit more viewable.

Awesome designs! I'd say you definately have a style - a really cool one. I do think that guys leg that is bent up looks a little weird, but i have nothing but praise for you. Keep up the hard work!

Thanks Fishspawn! I know what you mean, I think its the thigh. I need to adjust me line work a bit, and I think color will help illustrate the situation. It is a little exagerated, but a very do-able pose. I tried it myself

Starting to take shape a bit. With each piece I try to improve upon what I like in what I've developed. I also like to incorporate something I havent done before, something that will be a challenge for me to illustrate. In this case it will be the twirling weapon. i havent yet quite figured out what i will do, but I look forward to the challenge. I want to show the movement oviously, but also energy crackling off of it.

This is a little self portrait shenanagans to play with a softer feel and getting away from line art

Some crazy cool stuff...your sketch is real refined and fun to look at...the energy is captured and portrayed very well...the only thin gI got is that the blue texture brush you use is not one I enjoy...its too wimpy, I need blue flames of awesomeness...but thats more preference than crit...
