Hey, you've got some great rendering skills thar! 'Specially appreciate your paint over and all. Not so crazy about the anime Photoshop piece though. Do you have any anatomy studies or figure drawings you could post?
Thank you for the compliments. Yeah, I'm not too fond of my Anime piece either. I more or less put it up here to show my progress as I learn more and more about digital art, working in Photoshop and Open Canvas.
As for anatomy studies and figure drawings, I do have alot, but I will have to take pictures of them and put them on my computer. They are all from my college days back in 96. I haven't done any figure studies since then. I plan on starting again though. Just have to find a model. I find it's easier using a live model than going by a picture. I will try to get those copied to my PC and post them in here. I have alot of old work that will go up in here, and I will be posting new stuff frequently. Thank you again for the compliments.![]()
Well, I'm glad to hear you'll be posting more. I can definitely identify with the model thing. It's hard enough thinking in 3D without trying to do it looking at a flat picture, eh?![]()
not bad....keep at it....thats all i can say...don't stop...for the monkey's sake!!...![]()

My sketchbook
Looks good.
Thanks for the Compliments and encouragement guys.
You guys have really great work as well! Keep up the awesome work!
Here's some progress work of a project I'm working on. Let me know what you think.
and currently....

That last character is way cool! I prefer the version without the brain showing, though. And something about the angle vs the frame makes it look like she/he/it is moving out of the frame. Maybe some more space to the left?
Keep at this one, I want to se where you are going!

Ohjay - Thank you for the compliments. Yeah, I plan on doing something about the frame composition. I have to do a background yet too. And you're right about the brains. I like how realistic they came out, but they don't fit the picture. I'm going to revert to the original head. I may use the technique I came up with on the brains for the alien and do some reworking. After this, I will be doing another project. I've already done a prelim sketch.....

not bad, I like the one of the close up on the girls face. with that eye and eyebrow. photoshop is tuff, keep at it! Keep working with new brushes too, they have literally thousands as I'm just finding out.
sabe2003 - Thank you.I'm actually conflicted. I'm using Photoshop and Painter 9. I like Photoshop because it seems like it has more features, but I really like Painter 9 because it makes you feel like you're using real media for your pictures. The oil painting is amazing. I have not figured out how to create brushes that can replicate that in Photoshop. I need books on both of them. I got both from a friend, as I'm kinda poor at the moment. He didn't have the books for either. So I'm learning alot from this site and all of the great people here. LOTS of very inspirational talent here. I recently lost my $50k year a job as a corporate robot, and I want to take this second chance in life to get a job doing what I love, and that's art. Sorry for babbling. lol
A goody that I did today using ZBrush 2 to model and paint the head, then Photoshop for the background and glow effect. This was my first ever use of a 3d modelling program. I don't think I did too bad.
I'm actually quite proud of myself. lol.

Did some more stuff today utilizing ZBrush for the models....
My Alien from Yesterday, different color, different texture, no background...
The same alien head, utilized Photoshop to incorporate it into an existing picture...
Some Sea Creature thing, too lumpy and the teeth are not right...

the black and white rosswell pic; the alien-head's shadow needs to be push further away to the right and prolly made abit larger and more faded on the edges to meet the eyes of the subject. This would make it more beleavable.
the last pic; im not sure i can beleave it's nature... eyes popping out of the socket eachtime this thing needs to look around or tilt its head to lean forward springs to mind. nice work overall
Well, after taking a "gather my thoughts" break, I'm back. Today, I decided to go back to the basics and do some still life studies. The first one is of a stuffed Pikachu. The second is of a McFarlane Violator action figure. The Pikachu is finished, and I"m still working on the Violator. Crits are most welcome.
PIKACHU!!
VIOLATOR...

Your alien zbrush model is looking pretty nice. Your drawings could lack structure and form. Do some studies from Loomis or Bridgeman. I prefere Loomis' head drawing book....download it for free at fineart.sk Also think about light logic...on your alien head painting, the lighting you invented just doesn't make sense, and that is mostly due to where you placed your highlights.
Did this lastnight playing around with custom brushes in Painter 9...

Quick Digital paint I did today, just working on getting the feel for my Wacom some more and the 6D Art Pen.

i reallly like the tree on the hill
and the eye, great colors
where would i find the smudge tool?
PaperWings1 - Thank you for the compliments. As for the smudge tool, if you're asking where it's at, it's right under the eraser in Photoshop on the toolbox. If you're using CS2, it's also the Blur and Sharpen Button, you have to hold down the mouse button to see your choices. I hope that made sense. I'm not very good at explaining things. hehe. EDIT* I would highly discourage using the smudge tool though. You can get the same effect by mixing colors and using a soft rounded brush. Smudge should only be used in dire situations, or very sparingly at the most. It can muddy a picture up real fast if you're not careful.

Good Stuff, Its nice to watch your understanding of color and comp develop. Keep it up!![]()
Thank you. I haven't posted in here in quite awhile, but that's going to change. I let a certain online game take over my life for awhile. I've recently thrown it out the door. Back to art, and creativity. Where I belong.I'll be posting more stuff in here soon.
