    Invisible man, step by step...

    Practice, practice, practice.
In order to learn some anatomy I set out to paint a man in Photoshop.

I started with a stick man. Seven heads high.

Then I used the vector tool in Photoshop to place some volumes.

... after which it was quite a lot easier to produce a better sketch.

Then I could start with his flesh.

But I realized it might be a good idea to actually draw the light source before putting in any details.

With the light there, details was fun and games.

To make him a little less flat I added shadows.

Finally I hid away some flesh layers and got a semi invisble man.

I always find it interesting to see how other people's pictures go through stages, it's also a great way to diagnose problems in the actual drawing process. I think what really takes away from this piece is how stiff he is. In the stick-figure stage you should try to make the mannikin springy, here is a quick example I did in OC with a MOUSE (so beware )

starting a figure off without dynamic energy is one of the worst things you can do, in fact, you might want to start off with a gesture and fix the proportions later. Hope that was helpful!

Dan1989 - Yeah, way helpful. "springy" I've come across that in Loomis (but only _after_ doing this one... he he).

You're so right. I should avoid them straight stiff lines, they keep stiffening any piece no matter how many layers of highlight I try to apply... --- Thank you!
