Finished painting plus sneak peak of a new one--update 7-3-10

Ok, a couple of people at the sf workshop were getting on my case because I don't post much artwork.
So I'll try to post a few things here. Hopefully I can keep adding to it.

I did this a couple of weeks ago.
    Nupastel on coldpress watercolor paper.

People seemed to like this drawing from my portfolio.
    Nupastel on newsprint.

This is an old image that I did when I was in school.
I had it kicking around so I threw it in my portfolio--mostly for myself so I could think about the differences between the way I drew then and the way I draw now.
    Nupastel on vellum.

I think back then, I could give the appearance of good structure, but I wasn't really thinking about it.
I was just drawing what was in front of me.
Now, I'm really interested in structure and often prefer my structural drawings over my more rendered stuff.

Cool stuff. They have a nice feeling of "weight" to them. Your rendering is way better than mine so I can't crit that - the last guy there has really nice values IMO.
For some reason the first woman's stomach looks more like cloth than folds of flesh, I can't really figure out why ... maybe it's just my screwed up brain

    Keep it up!

PS. Were you one of the 14 who had dinner at that crazy Chinese restaurant with the rotating table, the night before the workshop? I think I was sitting a couple of people left of you.

cool civilwar soldier. The lower half of the face and the cloth is very nice.

I remember watching over your should while you were doing some life drawing. Then you left. Ron walked over, picked up Foster's sketchbook and after finishing looking at it, saw your spot open, shrugged and sat down and started drawing.

    Hope to see more soon.

coolness. I've often wondered what your art looked like.
Enjoyed the creativity of your mind in the lounge discussions for long enough to be interested in the creativity in your art!

Nice work Emily. I really like you’re second Pic.
You mange to show solid structure with simply loose lines, something I’ am very envies of.
I guess now you’ve got your sketch book going I’m going to have to do the same. I’ll PM you when I do.

Thanks so much for the replies and comments, everyone. They make me so happy!

I miss all my friends from the workshop. I had a dream the other night that you all came to stay at my house . . . and we went rollerblading . . . and I was an awesome rollerblader . . . then I knew it must be a dream ‘cause I can’t skate.

MoP, that’s a legitimate comment about the flesh—I guess it just looks that way sometimes. Yes, that was me at dinner--the one with the long blond hair sitting a couple seats to the right of you.
hito, thanks! Yes, I don’t mind if Ron wants to draw on my newsprint pad!
Groover, thanks, it was really great to meet you. Perhaps I’ll post some children’s stuff sometime.
NoUse, aha, thanks for complimenting my mind! I enjoy discussing things with you, too.
artkitty, thanks so much! Glad I got to hang out with you a lot in sf.
cartoonfox, ah, I’ll never be able to keep up with your insane sketchbook frequency! I live in Utah, about 1 ½ hours by plane from SoCal. But if you come down to San Diego, you’ll be a lot closer than in Wales!
jetpack, so happy I got to meet you. Maybe my sketchbook stuff posted here will appease you.
Sketch, thanks! I’ll try to keep it worthy of watching.
cotron, glad I got to meet you, Cody. Yes, I had tons of fun in sf, and I’ll try to keep up the posts.
cburt, thank you very much for the comments. Here’s another post for you to look at.
gabo, thanks so much—if only I had half the dedication that you do!
burning eyes, I remember seeing you on the last night in the Galleria lobby. But I was wiped out by then—I mostly sat in the chair like a blob and listened to you guys quote Napoleon Dynamite.
mentler, sure thing! It was great to meet you and see your drawings up close!
oDD, thank you, and I’ll try.
Black_neon, hehe, thanks, life drawing is the best!
corky13, thanks for the comment, I hope the wait wasn’t too long.
hurricane, hey, thanks! I have some gestures to post this time.
Bojee, errrgh, arrrgh, how come I didn’t meet you! Thanks, and I’ll have to catch you at the next workshop.
RES, great to see you here, Ryan. I’d love to see what kind of stuff you post up.
Prostate, it was great meeting you, too, even though you were embarrassed to tell people your online handle, hehe.

Okay, I’m glad I brought my big newsprint pad to the workshop, though I wish I had gotten some more sustained drawing done. The models were changing so quick I mostly got gesture-stuff. I should’ve stolen somebody’s easel . . .

Hey Emily! Didn't I work with you at Waterford? Great stuff here, I love your figurative work and it reminded me of BYU illustration...then that Dragon I think I remember before I left.

Keep up the great work! Post more!
