New Still life painting - Garlic Basket with Onion

New painting, currently with the framer. 20 x 20 cm, oil on canvas board. Sorry about the crappy photograph - will try to get a better one for the finished section.

I like it. One thing stands out though. The right side of the basket where it meets the background colour. I'd either soften that so the edge fades away, or put more detail on that section to match the detail you've got on the rim. At the moment it looks a bit awkward because it's neither one or the other.

Cant really comment on anything else because the photo is so blurry and over-exposed at the top, but I hope what I've said helps.

To get better lighting for photographing oil paintings, place two lights on the sides of the canvas. They should be directed at the center of the painting, at a relatively shallow angle (generally below 45 degrees). Flood lights or flash lights, doesn't really matter.

Or just go outside and shoot in indirect sunlight.

Thanks guys. I'll soften that edge when I get it back from the framer.

FWIW, I find I get the best (indoor) results by bouncing the flash off the ceiling.
