Did a more complete shading on a face, only to find out proportions were WAY off.
Also, some plant studies.

Hi Januz, you are off with a good start.
The pages with all the sketches are pretty good. Keep it going.
One thing i notice is that you usually use outlines for all, it will prove a really rewarding exercise if you mix in some drawings where you try using limited values and planes to suggest form. Or use lines along the planes in a way that suggest the 3dimensionality, like with cross-hatching.
I´m not terribly good at explaining things, so i´ll put a few images. these are from kchen´s demos
See how its light thats giving you the sense of bulk, and you can see there are not really too many values so there is contrast between light and shade, the strokes and marks he puts down also tend to follow a direction along the masses to give the ilusion of 3d. Check out the curved markings in the first image in the belly and legs that enhance the round shape.
Lines are a grahic resource, as there are none in real life, so even if you choose to go with line approaches in your drawings its going to boost up the quality as you get use to visualizing everything with its 3d properties.
JDSart, thanks for that tip! I'll get do some anatomy tomorrow with that in mind.
It's been slow lately, here's some small progress on Hard Rock:

Hi!
Good to see you are studying hard.
Like was mentioned earlier you might benefit from some simple exercises in seeing. It's a bit hard to explain, but it's basically to learn to not filter what you are seeing too much. Our brains are wired to simplify visual input into what is important to us, and to draw from reference you need to learn to switch off that filter in your head. One exercise that is surprisingly effective is blind drawing like someone mentioned earlier, but also drawing things upside down will help you, and a number of other exercises.
I can see from your work that you are already able to draw what you see with the landscape, wich looks much better than your pencil drawings. So with some effort you will be able to do that with the human figure too. When I was a kid I got this book called drawing on the right side of the brain, wich helped me a lot. It's full of usefull tricks to help you see better.
Keep up the good work!
Obstfelder, hey! Thanks for the comments, Drawing on the right side is on my shopping list. I've already spent some time doing blind contour, but none of the others. Negative space seems quite useful.
I'm still having some trouble getting used to thinking "in planes", but I guess it only takes more practice.
Working on typography too (copying some stuff from around the web)
Also, spent some time copying stuff from Tsuomo Nihei (mostly from "Noise").

Hey Jablar, thanks but those aren't mine. They're Kchen's sketches (from his anatomy demo)
Not getting a lot done lately, blah…
I'm using a both charcoal and graphite on these:
Oooo, remember my Hard Rock poster?I'm almost ready to call this done:

Oh, I see ..sorry for that...
anyway, I´ve checked that link and it´s very interesting, inspirational...
will123will, kevin_ thanks for the comments. You two are right on proportions, I did some figures today and couldn't stop noticing it. I'll start working on that!
jablar, no problem
It's been another slow week, mostly stuff from imagination:

good to see you still working at it!
Hey Januz! Nice to see you are still working man. So, have you checked the Riven Phoenix Videos already? Anyways, i'm back to anatomy studies too, as you may have noticed on my SB, and i really think doing the studies from the books will help, as long as you try to do it everyday, and from memory. Keep it up man, anatomy is a great commitment, but it's good to do some other things, like you are already doing.

Kidult, thanks!
Caio, I watched some of the freebies in his website. Still haven't decided to get the whole thing. The structure of Color looks really interesting though.
I think I'm starting to get the gist of gestural drawing. These are all 1 minute quick gestures.

The amount of work you're putting in is great. That in itself is really inspiring, keep going.

Long time no update! CA seems to be pretty stable (and a bit less cluttered) so here's my work from the last couple of weeks.
Gestures
Color Studies
These are inspired by Ctrl+Paint's "Tiny Studies". I'm not posting the original images I copied here since I don't think I have the rights to (I don't even know the author of some of the pictures).
First round: pictures of landscapes
Second round: Painters/Artists (can you guess which ones?)
Third Round: Design.
I stopped painting here, mostly because it's posters/covers and stuff like that. Also I was getting sick of it.
Fourth Round: Practice
Spent some time playing with brushes, mixing colors and trying to create moods.
Type Layer Styles
An old weak spot of mine. I followed a couple of tuts to improve on this.

dimi, thanks for the tip. I'm not really doing as much stuff from imagination as I should!

Subpolygonal displacement is a lot of fun

(I still suck at lighting tho)
Animation from this tutorial: https://vimeo.com/8495460
Looks like CA is only allowing 2 videos per post, so here's the other animation:
