    Michelle Rakar's Sketchbook

Hey, I'm new to ConceptArt, but I figured I might as well put myself out there. So don't hesitate to critique or give me some tips, because I'm always looking for ways to improve~

So here's a little bit about me: I'm heading into my sophomore year in college and I'm majoring in animation (but possibly considering switching over to illustration). My main areas of interest are character design and concept art; I'd particularly love to work in the video game industry.

I've been doing art for as long as I can remember, but I'll only include my pieces I've worked on this summer in this post, in order to show the most recent work of mine. I've posted them mostly chronologically from oldest to most recent (besides the fact that I posted traditional sketches before the digital).

This post is going to be fairly long just so I can showcase a lot of what I've done so far. My later posts will most likely be much shorter.

    Hands

Recently I've been working on hands. Since I struggle with them the most, I figured I'd take this opportunity to practice. I've had lots of help from my friends and some tutorials I found. And then this other digital piece is based off of The World Ends With You style, but with my friends and I in place of the characters.

    thank you for your post.

Your last post looks greatly improved but the majority of your drawings looks flat. I think it has to do with you putting the highlight at the edge too much.

I don't know much about cartooning, but some of your anatomy looks strange to me.

I think its best if you draw real stuff more often.

    Hey, fellow noobie here!

I too would like to practice drawing hands.. from what ive done I can say they are bloody difficult!! I like the style of your hand sketches so far but, and I am no professional so take this with a pinch of salt, I think you should try and draw more realistic anatomy for practice. My thinking is something along the lines of "you must know the rules in order the bend them".

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
    good luck

Thanks so much! I'll definitely take your advice about practicing anatomy and drawing from life.

    Thank you!
Yeah, I can see what you're saying. I really do need to work from life a lot more than I have been, so I'll definitely work on that in the future.
