So I've been thinking about what we could do for the illustration. Our whole setting and story is quite over the top, so I was thinking, maybe we can pull off one of those cheesy movie poster style illustrations.

The old lady was the previous guardian and is the mentor of our heroine because I needed another shape to fill some space. Let me know what you all think. Should I bring this one to a finished level or does anyone else have some other ideas?

@Raoul: Imho too many cats are kind of distracting from the actual character design. If at all, I'd keep the cats on the ground and wouldn't have them overlap too many of the design elements. It makes it look like we are trying to hide a lack of ideas under an army of cats.

That's exactly what I was doing. I was thinking the cats are a large part of what defines her, aside from her sunny, laid back personality.

As far as the illo goes, The Old Lady isn't in the story. I can shoe her into the next page if everybody really wants to include her.
Can you do a few alternative mock ups, so we have options? I can see this one going somewhere, There is allot about it I like, but it sounds like you're not digging it. I can see you like vignettes, but this sort of turned into a cliche floating head poster. The lion looks straight out of Narnia. This doesn't have to be mainstream. Here are 2 other version. Also a quick enviro sketch. Time is running pretty short to be honest, so everyone, let's hear some ideas for the illustration and environment.

My initial idea, something along the lines of a movie poster where we just put in everything we have established.

Another option would be the guardian in an action scene fighting the enemy.

Or the guardian in a rather peaceful scene with her cats.

Also for the environment, we haven't really thought of anything distinctive so far other than the shadow creatures have corrupted and destroyed parts of it. Should we go for the contrast I tried to do in my earlier sketches, with the overly warm, peaceful part of the land on one side and the corruption on the other?

Just throw out some ideas. Describe scenes, or do quick thumbnails. We really need to get on the same page now so we can start working on those finals. I know this might sound a bit pushy, but we only have a little over a week left. If we don't soon start working on the finals, we probably won't be able to make the deadline.

Varguy-This is the one I liked the most. I painted over the bottom image. It will give you more time to polish it in the end and it was a tid bit redundant anyways. I put some basic cats at her feet. Go ahead and get rid of them if you'd like. Dark, light, big, small or somewhere in between, it's your call. Keep in mind, there is no such thing as too many cats. I also mocked up some type. Don't worry about it. I'll take care of that in the end.

Don't know what more should I alter for morphed cat (tiger). I made both regular cat and morphed one have glowing orange/red eyes. This way regular cats will have at least one extraordinary feature (which makes sense... at least in my opinion).

Comments, suggestions?

Alright, I took the one Raoul suggested but I wasn't too happy with the color scheme and the light so I did a new one, while still trying to keep it mostly the same as far as composition goes.

looking good Varguy, perhaps some more red in the belt tho, very saturated like the bandana so she pops more. We want her to represent life and color* just a bit more Im guessing
