E.O.W Round #195: Adar Llwch Gwin Bathhouse

    E.O.W Round #195:

    TOPIC: Adar Llwch Gwin Bathhouse

    Brief:

According to Welsh tradition, the Adar Llwch Gwin were giant birds, similar in kind to the griffin, which were given to a warrior named Drudwas ap Tryffin by his fairy wife. The name derives from the Welsh words llwch ("dust") and gwin ("wine"). These birds were said to understand human speech and to obey whatever command was given to them by their master. However, on one occasion, when Drudwas was about to do battle with the hero Arthur he commanded them to kill the first man to enter the battle. Arthur himself was delayed and the birds immediately turned on Drudwas and tore him to pieces. Later, in medieval Welsh poetry, the phrase Adar Llwch Gwin came to describe all kinds of raptors including hawks, falcons, and, on occasion, brave men.

Hey guys, this is my first Environment of the Week. This is where I got so far but I'm feeling kind of stuck and not sure where to go with it.

I tried to add some bird like figures but they were kind of blocking the composition - do you guys think it'd be a good idea to add some? (plus I was having a hard time drawing those guys correctly)

If you do make them small, be sure to take care to not make them look like sparrows...

Heeey! First post on this forum I think. I've been meaning to participate in this contest for ages, but never really gotten around to it. Anyways, I sortoff liked the topic, so why not.

Eeeh.. Yea.. I dont really have a good idea tho! But.. I don't care x) Here's my sketch. What I was wondering was, is the character too much of a focus? All the scribbles above the arches will be a mosaic of sorts (based on the legend).

Jarkuzy: You need to raise the horizon line waayy up. Either that or redraw everything else. The perspective was better in the previous version. You have a really cool design going on though. Looking forward to see how this progesses.

Wait, does this have to be literally the place where the birdies wash themselves or is it just a place with their symbols all over?

z0iks, it's up to you but I think it'd be more fun if it was literally the place where the birdies take their bath.

Here's my idea... I really need to figure out how to do these environments!?! Good work so far, reminds me of elegant victorian architecture - Joseph Paxton crystal palace kinda stuff. Funnily enough, when that building was built, it attracted lots of Sparrows and Pidgeons, so to manage it they got Hawks, but then couldn't get rid of those!

Corrick Looks really solid. Right hand side pedestal / bath should probably mirror the left one (?) it seems too low to me. I think the lighting totally sells it.

I've added colour, not sure I want to do anything else to it!

Nice entries so far. Started with some sketches two more realistic and one a bit more stylish.
