Wandering noxious mutant Bard

Hey guys,

This is pretty much done for me, but i know there's something not quite right with it and i was hoping fresh eyes would help spot it...

Is it the values? the lighting? the pose? the color choice? the illustration? it just seems off and dead... there's no flow.

This is the colored version of a Chow that i submitted for the wandering bard...

If you guys wanna see the pencil drawing for comparison of this its in my Sketchbook.


Anyone able to shed some light and tell me what i can do better next time?

I think what you need are shadows.
The lights and darks you've used look more like mere value changes caused by the fabrik or whatever it is made of.
You need a lightsource and a clear shadow.
At least that would be my guess here.

My tip would be to take the black and white sketch or make a new one and block in the shadows in black while the light stays white.
No crosslines no shading just light or not light.

hmmm... ill try that. Planning to redo this char totally. different pose. better lighting. But ill keep what you said in mind. that makes a whole lot of sense! i see the problem with the lighting now. Thanks!
