Even tho once defeated and everything taken from them (skin, eyes) these creatures live again maybe by a jest of the gods? Even so ho would dare to oppose creatures that don't need rest and never tire!

When the necromancer Ha'Re Balczak decided to bring forth the re-animated remains of the displacer beast, it seemed like a good idea...until he couldn't find the damn thing...

Hailing from the prisoner plane of Acheron, these undead hunters proved to be every bit the nightmare their creators had envisioned.

    Concept: Undead Displacer

This feline beast had the unfortunate mishap of falling near a pool of magma. The poisonous gasses killed the beast quickly, and the intense heat seared its flesh. The feline was also harboring a Displacer Parasite lodged in it's brain. With it's host now dead, the parasite grew out monstrous tentacles and re-animated the dead feline. The undead displacer beast now prowls the mountainsides looking for new hosts to infect with it's offspring.

The downfall of many fighters, both amateur and veteran. Though the one beast which all fear is the one which doesn't die the first time you kill it. Especially when that beast comes in the form of the Displacer.

    Undead Displacer Beast

    Artist: Rairei19

    Concept: Undead Displacer Beast
The creature were once the king among the black panther, as he aged he was exiled from the colony. Angry with the betrayal, rumor was that the creature made a deal with the devil before his death, allowing to be eternally controlled by the evil spirit to fulfil his goal of terrorizing those that once betrayed him. The tentacles have life draining power that prolong his slowly decaying body.

TTmambo: very unexpected take on the subject. Rather than making it look badass, like everyone else, you made it seem like a pleasant nurturing creature, even though it has all those 'undead' qualities that would make it seems very horrific if encountered. For that you got my vote dude! Excellent work!!

btw...Centra and ded are my other fav's, great work guys!!
I'd like to see what other pieces of art you've done. It's be cool if you dropped a link to your website or portfolio! Or even started a sketchbook on here!

    additional comments:

warburton: you're def improving, really liking the atmosphere in your more recent artwork, although the environment does look a little empty, perhaps adding something in the background, faded by the mist, such as some dead trees or even another displacer beast.

metal_militant: there's some readability issues in your piece. This is basically still a rough sketch though, even if your leaving it in b&w try to push those forms and values to make your creaturemore legible. Also I think you could've experimented with better poses.
Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

I totally understand sir. It is a rough piece but I really wanted to submit something and I didn't have time to colour it in. I will sit down with the colours now. And I will definitely explore posing and composition in future works.

Warburton and Ded where both really good, but I had to vote for TTmambo in the end. nice humorous take on the subject and the Square Enix style of the wings/tentacles make for a pleasing design.

Some thoughts on a few of the designs:

Centra: I like your design, but I think you could have upped the contrast a tiny bit to show off the light sources inside the body more.

Meteor Panda: you have some interesting design choices, but your rendering is a little flat. with no implied light sources. Maybe you could have done a more clear lineart version wich would have showed the design better?

Whiskey Sour: I think you've done a nice rendering of the bones, but the design doesn't come together so well. The fire in the eyes and the tentacles need to cast more light in the scene. and the broad stance feels very un-cat like (if that makes sense).

Nice challenge, great work from everyone! See you in the next one.

Voted for Antono - Loved the clean linework and style, it's so different than what we usually see that it hit me immediately.

Runner's up were TTmambo and Warburton, loved both of those. I liked the designs of others including Centra, Ded, Obstfelder and others, but some were lacking 6 legs, which to me is a recognizable feature of a Displacer beast. May be nitpicky but the little things sometimes make or break you.

Good job all, love this DnD series.
