Well, it's different, but it's also kinda unrecognizable, so depending on where this is supposed to go, I might look into that. As in if the point of this is that the viewer looks at it and immediately is supposed to know it's Death, like in tarot cards, then it's not really working, though I can see the point of lots of the things (at least I think I do), like scissors to cut life threads and so on, but in a quick glance this guy looks like a pirate-tailor who's out to go bury himself and not Death.
Also the lamp looks bit weird since it's day, so the glow of the lamp wouldn't probably be even that strong.

I second what TinyBird said, this guy is totally not saying 'death' to me. He looks a bit more like a Goblin tailor.
Was this inspired by Keith Thompson's work? If it was or wasn't, I'd suggest looking up his stuff, he puts a LOT of thought into every detail of his character designs and they help tell a story even with just a single character on a plain background. You might find it useful.
