I bid you welcome traveler, for you have reached a sketchbook in which I will document my continued failures on my quest to become GREAT. The road to GREATness is plastered with obstacles such as perspective, proportion, composition, values and various others, which are fearsome foes indeed. Every sketch I do will slowly chip away the mask of those enemies which I hope to defeat.

Enough of the dramatic entry texts tho, let's just focus on the art.

///1. A skull study

This must be one of the only things I've drawn in forever that I actually like.

///2. Value study of a back

I messed up the perspective/proportions and I had a really hard time figuring out the nuances in the back. It was a horrifying experience.

///3. A self portrait

I seem to have huge problems when it comes to hard lighting. The mouth seems to be perspectively wrong, the brows are too high and the jawline doesn't resemble mine. I need to contruct more.

Picked up the book "The Naked Human" by Gottfried Bammes, a truly fantastic book about everything anatomy and I heartily recommend it to everyone.

///Pencil sketches

Picked up "Sketching and rendering in pencil", so I tried to improve my pencil shading skills. Didn't realize how great a tool the pencil really was (and how much I suck at it, there are some amazing pictures in that book, you should check it out, since it's free and all).

good progress so far just touch up a little more on the face feels slighty off. Also book I recommand checking out if you are interested is figure drawign by micheal hampto and if its still available go to your local bookstore or online and get imagine fx special o the human anatomy by ron lemen it will help you out.

keep it up with your anatomy studies and your b&w paintings dude, keep on being specific, study just a few things for a while, right now, drawing skills + values is enough, so keep that for a few months, and you'll make tons of improvments !!

Two self portraits, one in graphite one in Photoshop.

The really blatant flaw in the graphite one is the position of the eyes, with which I had problems in the digital version, too. Quite odd, I never seem to know where to place them.

Very nice works so far (I dig the 'dramatic entry text' xD ) My fav has to be the skull , very realistic.
As for the self portraits; Maybe you should take a closer look at noses and lips. The nostrils appear to be too visible for a front view -maybe the nasal wings start a bit too far under the level of the nose tip? (Hard to judge without seeing your face though :/ ) And adding a bit more detail to the line where the lips meet will make the face look more open and natural. Right now the portraits seem rather tense and, literally, 'tight-lipped'

I should really switch to A4 paper, I can't scan this because it's on A3 and my scanner is too small.

Haha, I've been absent for a long time, but I have not stopped drawing!
I managed to ace my entrance exam for art and am going to study starting this winter, about which I am absolutely thrilled.


I made the animal drawings yesterday, references were stuffed animals.
The figure drawings were made 2 weeks before that, thanks to the wonderful model that I hope I represented alright.








I made a lot more drawings over the past months, but I didn't want to dump all of it, so I decided to just post the last ones that I made.
