    Zombie Portrait - WIP

    Hij all there!

Ventured into something I typically don't - something nasty, dark and creepy, in this case a zombie portrait.
I've gotten unusually far with it compared to my typical artworks in terms of hours spent - but I would love some advice on finishing and polishing this one up to its maximum potential (this is where you guys come into the picture )

    Cheers in advance
    /Benjamin

    hi

looks great! One thing i noticed though, is that the teeth are growing out of lips... i immagine the lips are ripped of, and these are gums? Then the ripped off lips should be shown more clearly, for the zombie to reflect a former human form more accurately.

    Hi there geduliss!

Thanks for your comment! It was supposed to look like gums, with the lips being ripped off yep. But if it doesn't read like gums, it will need some work that's for sure.

You can see the ripped skin line very clearly

I like it well done on creating something creepy when it isn't your usual style.
I have a few nitpicks about the blood though. The blood running from his ear - if it's his blood then it probably should be dry, no? Seen as dead things don't bleed, because they have no heartbeat. Blood is tricky and it doesn't flow as such anyway, even if he was able to pump it out of the wound. Check out some good gore FX photos for reference (or just go and look at real blood photos if you can - I know some folks can't stomach it) Also blood is really a lot darker than that - especially when it's oxidized, it's almost black.

    Hi Kveldvaahiim
Thanks for your input! Actually, I've already once changed the blood color running down his neck to a more dark color - but I agree it needs some more to convey the no heatbeat-dead-zombie-feel. Absolutely. I'll try to look at reference for how blood would run down the neck - but you're right, looking at these reference pictures have been a real challenge for me already heh.

    Cheers

    You're welcome ^_^
Also, I forgot to add that blood, being a fluid, has speculars of light when it's still wet so you might want to play with those also
