you have a good hand and good ideas you will do great when you get to a pro level but for now keep doing those studies, try different teachers as well except bridgmen such as Hogard and Loomis and Michael clamptons book on anatomy and figure is fantastic. use every resource you can get and always remember that training your hand and brain is the most important thing so draw and paint every day.
to bring in some color in your SB I would recommend to do color studies of screen shots from movies/shows or life studies of items/fruits etc...

Thanks for the reccomendations. I have a bunch of books + PDFs . Loomis is great, will lookup Hogard and Clampton, never heard of them. And will do some film studies, it's on
my list of things to do:
1. FINISH A PIECE!!!

2. Studies from life and film stills.

3. Concentrate and diversify and draw more.

I know this MSpaint bullshit won't cut it, but for now i'm letting loose and will try coloring/painting and adding detail later/soon.

Mike Mignola's art is amazing, and I love the substance and concepts he describes in the backs on the Hellboy comics, his stuff is sooo good.
The art is highly stylized and I usually don't like that, like with Akria T.'s DBZ stuff, it just gets too repetitive for me.

Anyway,.. this was drawn right after I read a B.P.R.D comic.

MY cell camera is shit and I'm not sure if i did a good job sharpening and brightening in photoshop on the first one only, but eh... here it is...


Started out with a Humanoid under sketch with extended clavicles and a distorted alien hip for exaggerated limbs. The neck and head are supposed to be beast like... like a 4 legged animal. The chest is supposed to look all human. hope it looks good, let me know what you think.

Here's some stuff, mostly done quickly, I'm really not happy with most of it even though it's just sketches, but I'm really just doing this to keep in the habit.



Once again I don't like that this is not in perspective and I'm doing the beginner standing on a horizontal line thing... but mainly I just wanted to practice muscular and proportional things. his foot is dumb to.. i just drew toes into the outline


I like the one shaded blue. the others need work with overlaying skeletal correctness on gesture lines.


Hadn't used pencil in a while to draw. also experiencing phantom wrist pains(been reading too much about it maybe) but also figuring out i like wide bodied pens and that i need to draw from the shoulder more but it's hard working small scale and on a tablet.
Also lmao i messed the ear and nose on the blue one so bad... Dx

I have only 2 advice to u: try to work more neatly u have too much unnecessary lines, i work like u many time but then understand thats it not very good); and i think u must increase your knowing about muscles... yes)

I'm glad you agree, because I was not sure, i was mostly going on intuition.

Yes! thank you, those are my big weaknesses. I need lines with higher quality and simplicity while still conveying subject.
and also YES! hahaha. look at my back muscles on this thread. xD they are wrong completely.. idk why i always never study back muscles and leg muscles. pretty much all of them. especially back muscles and leg muscles. my ab drawings stick out too much.

dude you have a very developed imagination, a few years ago I would have said study gesture, structure and other technical skills, but your originality is what's gonna make you stand out so keep it up and don't let any technically-obsessed artist make you think otherwise

Good variation in your efforts. Some rendering, perspective, gestures, etc
I like your approach where you use a color to map out and structure the image before you go in with black lines. I'm starting to find that very useful myself.

sporus, I really like your worm!
for the thums, I like the lower left best; the others are suffering from lack of space!
same thing for the piece you are finishing. give it more space;
do you know about the rule of thirds? put your point of interest somewhere around 1/3 of the picture.
here, I'd say the primary is the head eating the birds. 2nd might me the body disappearing in the clouds. 3rd the air vents on the creature.
so put all those around 1/3 points. most important; NOT too close to the edge of the picture. so ye, id give the body a bit mor swung, and let it fade into the clouds in the distance, so that part looks far away. then the creature's really big all of the sudden.

I saw your post on te teen challenge thread and i reslly liked your wurm it was the strongest conceptually out of the rest i think, i was rooting for yours idk if youre still going to finish it or not but i saw that you were having trouble with the clouds blending with the skin? I wouldve suggested to make the clouds a dirtier white instead the conventional white? And darkening the sky a bit to contrast the pinkish white skin

Have you ever seen roboto-kun's cloud paintings on deviantart? They arent pure white, sorry if im rambling haha thought id be of some help anyways great sketchbook i cant wait to see more

Just posting these for posting's sake. I am exhausted... LOST my other Final due to PHotoshop Crash and submitted this for a Teen Challenege.


oh and this my first finished piece.
after having finished something I can really see how much work I have ahead of me. I'm not as good as I want to be by any means and some Alarming issues came up while working on this challenge. I don't know a lot crucial things about Photoshop and painting.

Doing the Teen Challenge #171 was an AMAZING LEARNING EXPERIENCE!!!!
I had a lot of fun, the positive stress really helped me work on my art constructively and being forced to work on a deadline was extremely vital to the process. (for me, ...i'm lazy)
