Batman sculpture WIP.

Finally plucked up the courage to sculpt this guy. Been a fan of Batman since I was a kid.
Sculpted in mixed super sculpey and stands 15" tall.

Wow leebea! Is it finished?

Altough I´m not really in any position to be a critic since I´m just getting started, i do think it feels a bit naked. Perhaps a bit more texture detail along with some paint would really sprung this bad boy to life.

Thanks. He's not finished just yet...still sculpting. I'll be adding more detailing like fabric wrinkles and his belt after baking.

Looks great. I think this is your best one yet but i have one small crit, the fingers on his right hand looks very stiff and maybe a little short. If it's not too late, i think straightening the fingers at the knuckles and bending them bit at the other joints would make it look more natural.

Great job on the detailing there. Really like the tidiness of the belt and the realistic feeling of the cloth.
Hands are supposed to be pretty difficult to sculpt (so i´ve heard), i agree with JoshS i think it would improve the overall awsomeness if you would spend a bit more time perfecting that bat-paw

Yeah, the right hand is what I noticed too. It doesn't quite look "purposeful", like even Batman isn't sure what to do with it. Everything else is so strong, that hand in the right pose could really send it home. A fist is awfully cliche, but it might be a way to go... or flatten the fingers straight out and make the hand almost perpendicular to the arm for a more "at the ready" pose... or curl the fingers more claw like where they are now. Lots of options! Awesome, powerful piece!

Thanks. I'm working on the hand at the moment. I've curled the fingers....also adjusted the cowl and his jaw line. I'll upload some images over the weekend.

Wow, awesome sculpture! The stance and his look of determination are so visually strong, really, really good work and now I have a question for you:

In your last post you have a picture of him in pieces, did you bake him in pieces? Or did you cut him up afterwards? Why? How?

I always bake my pieces whole so I'm really curious

I planed my armature to come apart at the arms and head while sculpting. Its easier then to bake parts separately. Once the rest of the body was sculpted I cut the leg away while the clay was still fresh. I had to slice the leg then peel the clay open to find the armature...then I make my cut. Then I bake the body first. After the body's done I make sure the leg fits back in place then I baked it. And then I add the keys.

Thanks. The cape will be sculpted....I'll be using some metal mesh sheeting and aves apoxie to get the shape and folds of the cape.

The base is almost done. He's now standing 18" tall.

Awesome work here, I love the details of his suit and the muscular work. I didn't notice the hand untill others pointed it out, so I suppose that says something.

His base is amazing, very fitting for the character. It creates a beautifull diorama, I can almost see him looking out over Gotham City from a roof, ready to throw his Batarang

Right now, I think he doesn't look like Batman just yet, but with his cape it should work out just fine
