Hi guys, I'm an architecure student from Romania. I'm starting this sketchbook hoping to better commit to improving my skills. It's been almost a year since I descovered this wanderful forum, and struggled to get involved as much as possible, but the lack of time and other circumstances kept me away from what I found to be one of the best ways to improve -- working with a clear objective in mind and a time limit -- the weekly chalanges.(yeah, I'm not the fastest one around)

While I came to like architecture I know that I always loved and dreamed to become a concept/cg artist and now more than ever I want to fight for it.

I really hope that I'll be able to commit myself to this and keep updating it as often as possible, there's a lot to be done.

It's late night, I tried to finish for this week's C.O.W. but I took the wrong route starting from black and white and adding color later becouse as it turns out that is not as easy as I heard it was said to be.

Anyways here's what I've done so far, maybe I'll finish it sometimes when I'm rested.

Tried the variants aproach for the first time I think and it proved to be very useful


Then researched a little about gorilla and ape movement and rapidly sketched some poses


Decided to go for the last one and searched a POV that would help accentuate the iminent danger that the pose previewed


Sort of content with the result though I'm dissapointed that I wasted too much time and messed up with the colors

Time for some updates

I thought about trying a daily sketch a few days ago but instead I got to study bovine anatomy. It wasn't planned but meh.. it was educative.

Yesterday I discovered the "Crimson Daggers" forum and joined it too.
It reminded me of some things that I planned to do long ago but never got to putting into action.

So with my Deathlines setteled, I strarted doing studies, and for a while I plan to do a lot from reference.
The thing is that while I know it to be usefull I always get the feeling that studying from refference is kind of a waste of time so I limit how much time I spent on them.

First 2 around 45 misn to 1 h





Then I tried something that I always found difficult to do, and didn't manage to handle in 1.5 h





To finish it for one day I decided to try something new. I cut, pasted and deleted parts of the last img and tried to get a space ship out of it. It was an interesting procees to explore.

Hey Callergi, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. The feedback is very helpful so cheers for that. You have some brilliant imagery going on in here. In particular I love your line work in your first post. The extreme urban explorer is superb!

I will say that you may need to keep some of your paintings a bit tighter in places to give them more of a focal/selling point. Much like your C.H.O.W image has. That has a clear focal point with the pin-up. With the ship been a little unfocused in places my eye hits that pin-up right away. The fact she's half naked has nothing to do with it ;o)

I haven't posted in a while, though I've been working more or less efficiently.
For one I cleaned my brushes as I had so many that I only managed to use only 10. Now I'm roughly at 200, and its much better, I actually get to experiment without a getting a headache.

Meanwhile I tried getting some stuff done

Tried to learn some about mechanical stuff too, but got into stiffness while trying to push it further to with faster detailing.













well, all along had Mr.Jack's(from DA), Sparth's(CA) and Feng Zhu's work as learning material but, helping with the confusion. Even tried some lasso involvement, which for some reason I hate using, and abandoned my concept for EoW with the floating venetian palace.

In the end decided that no matter what from now on I'll be working on three things, as an ice breaker for multitasking and helping the feeling that it's a waste of time.
The main idea is to get to it and get it further and further each attempt(leaving them as they are after a certain ammount of time), figuring out things and hopefully managing to finish them in the end.

Hey man, thanks for dropping by, and for the crit, totally accurate You have some great work here, love the C.O.W sketches in post #10. You talked about checking levels in reference pictures, can you tell me more ?

Hello there. Thanks for dropping by and sry I didn't see ur messege sooner. What I meant about levels is something like getting the saturation out of some great artworks or movie screenshots and then analizing the tones, how those gray lvls are dustribuited, get the color picked and see the actual black levels and then maybe do the same for your own work and compare,etc. I found this sort of execise very usefull esp to prepare to move in to color study later on. Hope this clarifies it enough

And about your piece:
Linearts looks much better then full rendered picture. But i guess its just a matter of time you will get to the point both of them would look awesome.
I find lack of focus point on some of the artworks you've done, especially one caught my attention:
"E.O.W Round #181: Centaur Rendezvous Point" - almost everythings rendered in the same way.
I know it was from July and I guess if the tempo is held you've made the progress to cut that error out now, but just sayin.
Those early paintings a bit gluey if you know what I mean, lack of those 'firm shapes'. But again, those are early!

Yw Maciek, and I totaly agree with you about the lack of focus and gluey feeling, I'm always trying to find ways to overcome those tendecies. As for "And about your piece:

For a long time I have been far too lazy to update my sketchbook so I'll give it a new try at being more dedicated to it.
I'll start with some practice drawings that I did yesterday.

Wow, looks pretty sharp to me! How much time did u spend on those?
And about my sentence. I think I might have been misunderstood because of my english level, hah.
By "piece" I meant "your sketchbook by overall". And by "both" I meant linearts and full renders".
I guess its all because I translate Polish senteces in my head literally. hah I always do that, damnit. >:/

Thanks! I think around 2,5-3h on each including the design.

No problem about the english translation, I know how that is. About your point, now that I understood it, I guess it is becouse one way or another I line drew since I was in kindergarden and only in collage did I start painting, although direcltly digital with no traditional background.
