Has CA given up on tut vids?

I've noticed it's been quite some time since CA released any new videos/downloads. Seems as though there focus has shifted away from some of the initiatives that this site was built on.

Just disappointed in the lack of releases. Not everyone can afford large chunks of cash for TAD etc...so those videos make for a nice less costly alternative and also seem to galvanize people's love for CA.

Why can't you just say this instead?

"Dear CA. Thanks for your site and your awesome vids. I'd like to know if any other vids might be in the works? I've found them very kick ass and educational. KEEP EM COMIN!"

Show some appreciation, man. There's no need to lay on a guilt-trip, or accuse them of losing their "initiatives."

Slow Daddie Criticism is really what drives this place, calm down.

Nickelhead I seem to remember reading somewhere, that the reasoning behind leaving the tut section be, was because a lot of videos popped up with tutorial type content, FZD School, sinixdesign and so on... It's easy enough to find other places.

Slowdaddie- I didn't say that because that's not what I meant. It's not about a guilt trip it's about feeling like a person who supported someone to help them get where they got, and then those people turning their back on you.

It's like dating a girl and she does all these great things and then you marry her and she changes. I'm not the only one that feels this way. This board has gone from an educational hub that provided valuable content to a TAD billboard with no incentives to frequent the forums.

Incinerated- you made my point. If I can get that content elsewhere and there's no more new content funneled through CA....then why would people come here? Without the original content and educational materials, this place is basically DeviantArtna place to just post work up. And even that seems to be dwindling.

I liked this place, but it seems like it's been all but abandoned from a resources stand point.

Save your time and just read muddycolors.blogspot.com which has great daily content including former contributors here and post your work at cg hub or one of the other million spots.

Loyalty is given when loyalty is received.

    Thus ends my rant.

Nickelhead has a right to provide constructive criticism, which is exactly what he did.

I too would like to see some more tut vids. The streaming classes are great in their own right, I have several of them, but they're built for focusing on theory rather than process (many of them are slides with the instructor talking), whereas a tut vid can more easily have both.

I believe the problem is that most Massive Black artists aren't involved with CA these days, and probably aren't interested in doing a vid where all the profits go to CA. CA is about TAD now. TAD instructors are probably too busy teaching their full time students (though we have gotten a couple vids from them, just not in a while).

I'm not involved in any way though; that's all just speculation on my part so don't read into it too much. Just posting because I care

The thing is, the content already realeased is quite enough to get you going for quite a few time, years I'd dare say. I'm not saying they should drop the videos completely, but they have a lot of areas covered already, so it's expected that the output is reduced.

I'd like to see some artists dig up their oldest drawings as a kids or younger (I know there's a thread for old art) and other old trials and tribulations and explain more as a pep talk that you have to go through a lot of mistakes in art, and artists talking about how they got over a lot of the frustrations and fears to make it.

I think it would be a nice chicken soup video for artists willing to talk about these things, so other people remember that art takes time and progress.

Turn the forum into an Iphone/iPad app, then you would get more people back, in my opinion. It could have a slight edge on procrastinating itself, with a taste of education. For tutorials, I am not sure what you can do.

I think it's tough to answer as Morderischen said alot has already been covered.
I know the following topics I will write here are covered in other ways ie (VLP, TAD Classes, Discovery, Explore). The reason I'm mentioning them is that I really liked Sterling's and George's downloads where a piece of art was done live in the classroom.

    Pencil rendering and drawing

Jane Radstrom - figure drawing with pastel (love the 10min vid I saw in Explore)

    Picture Book with Gary Kelley

A discussion/lecture on the 5 step process and how different artists approach it in their work.

Last but not least : Greg Manchess in a follow up to Above The Timberline. He mentioned that if he did another one he would like to focus and the sketch/thumb process more. That's something I would very much like to see from him.

Also I second Arshes Nei's idea, would be really awesome to see a vid like that.

Is balance and proportion too vague? Basically: design?

How different light and atmospheric situations dictate how shadow and light (and their colors) are portrayed on a subject (and it's shadow/reflected light) and WHY that is so.
