This is for a book cover. The spine would be slightly to the left of the deer, so that deer isn't really so smack in the middle of things.

Great book cover, and I would love to see some darker values for the accents (especially faces) in your water color work.

jedininjaman: I haven't quite worked out values in watercolor. Sometimes it comes out OK, but a lot of the time it comes out blobby. Especially for skin and if I try to go more than a couple of layers of color. You wouldn't happen to have any tips, would you?

Another book cover, with text removed. I'll probably post the complete version to my blog if my internet is still working after I do this post. The midline is actually to the left of the yellow line, so that isn't the center. I've been using a lot of downloaded textures (that give permission, obvs, but are still not created by me), but I'm not sure if there's a problem with doing that. (Like, is it still legit illustration or whatever.)

Studies of my camera. Some with tripod shoe--Is that what it's called?--attached.

And this doodle I won't explain.

hi habrok, what wonderfull ink stuff you have here.
things like the turkey in #74 and of course the pumpkin baby are very nice.
you should definitely clean that last one up in photoshop. you know how to do that?
threres lots of tutorials online explaining if you dont. it's pretty easy.
    (http://www.elfwood.com/farp/theart/a...lcleaning.html for instance)
the latset piece of ink and aquarel are very good. especially considering the first people in your thread were a little awkward.
what you havent told us is where you want to go with your drawing. I have no idea how old you are, how many years of experience you have. how many hours of drawing, what kind..
I have a feeling you either are an illustrator or learning to become one. but I dont know. Im just guessing. can you tell something about that? helping people to progress is really hard if you dont know where they want to go

ashess: When I've tried to clean stuff up using those methods colors seem to get very glarey or lost. I'm not sure if I've been doing something wrong, or--like in the example--it mostly works for black/gray lines?

I'm working as an illustrator, but I don't really have that much experience and I work pretty small time, mostly doing book covers at the moment. I'd like to get my skills to a more competitive level. I studied story boarding in school (after bouncing around focuses some.), so I'm not that up to speed on some illustration stuff. I have trouble getting work to a finished stage, my bag of tricks is pretty small, etc.

I'm not exactly sure where I want to be going, to be honest. Aaand I just turned 30. :3

Did one of these Pixeltuner thumbnail things, since they looked pretty fun. I just see trees in everything, though.

Man! Great stuff, seems like you have rich inner world, aka "you're slightly crazy" but that's awesome! rock n roll woo hoo
Anyway, very creative... I like your composition and your markmaking! From that photoreferenced portrait and from your watercolors I think you need to study more the structure of the facial features (can pass you a very good book about it!)
This last composition is coming along nicely, I like the rhytm of the trees but i think their angle could drag the viewer's eye out. The leaf framing idea is good but right now that's too high contrast to me, maybe lower the contrast, lower the position and change the tilt so that is functioning as an arrow leading the eye to the figure. You could also change the angle of the trees so that they point downwards toward the figure. My 2 cents what do you think?
Regarding the path you want to follow: you're the only one who knows the answer, I love your book covers tho!

@habrok- funny,I though I replied. but yes, the method is best for black-white and then add color later.
if you want to be an illustrator, maybe study some well-known ones?
also, ye the tuner thumbs are fun ^^

Ashess: You did. It's pinched between my last two posts.

Here's some doodles, nothing major. I've fallen off the drawing wagon a bit, recently.

"Cemong" is a dog name. It means "smudgy faced". XD

ashess: The red thing is gouache lifted off of gesso. It's definitely a bit dark. I can't find any gesso here that isn't gritty. Maybe it's matte or something? The gouache doesn't really lift off, or the gesso stains or something. I used the same tech for the lion back on page 1 or 2, using a more latex-y gesso and it lifted off way better and also held sharper/finer texture grooves. Not only does this gritty stuff hold the color, it also kind of 'melts' all the grooves get really soft unless you make them chunky. I don't like it.

pixel cheetah: Thanks. : ) I am attempting to struggle through the struggles!

A quick sketch of one of my high school illustration clubbers to show them the more forgiving nature + less work of drawing with a bigger point than that of a mechanical pencil. And then they go "Oh. Ok." and go back to their tiny little leads and writing grip.

The other two are older; a face referenced from a korean music video, and some noodling. I guess I could have cropped out "do not draw here" but I think it's kind of funny. I have wrecked so much stuff in sketchbooks that I wanted to save by forgetting and going all markers on the back of it.

Sporus: Not sure what happened to the group. I think some people have been caught up in end of semester stuff or other RL time constraints. And I've been having internet issues, as I am somehow internet-cursed.

A Balinese dancer I got bored of. It came out more cartoony than I wanted, so I don't feel like committing to all the fussy costume details.

And a couple pages of scribbles since I love seeing other people's.
