Issues with Intuos 4 M touch ring

From the day I bought my Intuos 4 Medium I've had nothing but trouble. First it didn't installed the tablet properly, so after various email (not so helpful replies) and one configured HDD it finally worked.

Though, I'm using Photoshop CS3, and everything works fine, except my Touch ring.. ...it refuses to work properly.

I can zoom in with the first setting, but when it comes to cycle layers, brush size and canvas rotation, it won't work.

When I rotate my finger around the ring, the Eyedropper tool appears and flickers. Why? And how can I fix it?

Yes, I have the latest drivers, both for my tablet and PC.



Also while on it, it also refuses to work with GIMP. I did everything that's possible, and nothing works. I even installed Ubuntu and Gimp on that, but it didn't work.

Give this a try...

** WARNING: This will likely remove any custom configurations you've done for your tablet. **

Search your cwindows\system32 directory for *tablet.dat

You will more than likely have a file named something like wacom_tablet.dat

Back this file up and remove it from this directory.

Now open the Wacom Tablet Preference File Utility and hit the 'Remove' button under 'All User Preferences' and confirm the removal.

Reboot your computer and give it a try.

This worked for me with similar issue.

If this doesn't work, don't be afraid to call WACOM support. I've found their support team to be knowledgeable and helpful.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. The eyedropper tool still flickers when I rotate my finger round the touch ring.

So far I've been able to paint with it, but when one pays 399eu for something sure hell I think it SHOULD work properly :p

Any other ideas?

Did you check what the touch ring is mapped to for photoshop?

Yes. Got bored of trying, and also pissed. I have no idea why it wont work. Maybe its photoshop that's corrupted. Though it doesn't work with GIMP either.

First I'm not sure what you mean by everything...obviously you missed something if it's still not working, but that doesn't mean it's a simple fix. What Operating System are you using?

I'm am curious about this configured HDD...but that may not be relevant. Have you installed the latest Wacom drivers from the website? Is your OS properly updated?

I would suggest starting with the easier of the two...uninstall the Wacom drivers including preferences and reboot....then reinstall the drivers and reboot. I did have a couple of issues a while back that were solved by doing this. Or you could uninstall the Wacom drivers followed by Photoshop...reboot then install drivers first, reboot, then install PS.

I did those steps the first week i got my tablet. I use windows vista, and yes, got the latest drivers for both my pc and tablet.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled my tablet several times, and the touch ring issue still remains. It might be photoshop that's corrupted, but then again, the tablet doesn't work with GIMP either.

So after a year I finally fixed the issue. Don't laugh at me please xD

I forgot to link photoshop shortcuts to the touch ring lmfao, it works as it should now ;p

BUT it won't work with GIMP, still. I don't know why.

Oh, looking back at this 2 year old post. The person is assuming the defaults are supposed to work for CS3 and GIMP

The rotation DOES NOT WORK for CS3, it's for CS4 Rotation does not work for other programs, you must manually change them.
Most of the default settings do not work for other programs. Please change them, if you guys have the intuos4 and intuos5 tablets.
