I'm sorry to ask this, but in the begining of the post was talking about this being an upgradte from the beginners painting thread? I haven't found such thread and I don't really get how to do those steps. I mean I get them in theory but I can't really get it right. So any help would be appreciated ^^°.
So I just managed this thingy thing, maybe someone can offer me some advice?

Hi, first of all it looks like you are using a mouse to paint, if that's the case buy a tablet, it's a must.
Secondly here is some helpful videos: http://www.ctrlpaint.com/
Saw this thread a few weeks ago - finally got around to doing a study of my own for a couple of hours this eveningCheers to bumskee for the inspiration!

@Jaa That's a pretty one.
Looks pretty good. I see the following issues:
-Lacks contrast - apple is too dark to see much detail
-Kind of flat lower down - partially because of lack of contrast
-Needs better edge control - you didn't clean up the edges after blending the tones. There's also a hard edge missing near the top where the apple indents for the stem.
-Silhouette of the stem and leaf are unrefined - zoom in and shape them a bit more
-Leaf is unrendered - you did the rest of the apple, so why stop there? The leaf stands out like a sore thumb right now.
I saw this thread whilst browsing the web for tutorials on digital painting, and it has been very helpful to me!
So I picked up the nearest object to me and went to town on my bamboo with it
I cheated with the text and the logo, but spent a lot of time doing the rest.
I was gob smacked by the first posts apple, flippin eck!
I want to do this!!!:
Did another, got a photography onto my computer, started with the outline by tracing around the original photograph so he didn't end up looking like sloth from the goonies.
And then blocked, blended and details by eye.

@Artush
Those look fine for work done from photographs, but it's better pratice to work from life. All it takes is a desk lamp and something white to put underneath (eg. printer paper).
SmallPoly: Thanks!it is even better than from picture i think
here i tried apple.

I realized too late that we are supposed to paint something that's actually in front of us. >< I just copied the OP's apple...
STILL, I would definitely appreciate some feedback. I've been drawing for a while, but this is the first time I've done digital art (my tablet came today!).

Hi Haeskre,
It would be much better to see something done from life. This just looks like a study of someone else's painting (which, as you said, it is). It's kind of muddy. It lacks volume. You added details before you finished blending.

Right, don't have much experience doing this, but here goes.
I tried to simplify the details and use as few strokes as posible, but they all got pretty messy in the end.
I only have steps for the skin. Totally forgot I was screenshotting steps when I started on her hair.

Jurlique balm thing.
The left one looks a bit off, imo. I can't figure out why...
(Yes, I know I didn't finish lettering; had to cut drawing time short; too many things to do~!)
Orions: Add more detailing with a finer brush to make her really pop, especially her hair!![]()
This is my attempt.
As I can see, it's muddy compared on the first one of bumskee: WHY???

This is a fantastic tutorial! Found a purple onion and couldn't resist having a go. (: Took about an hour.

So. I didn't have an apple, so I painted Mango Pudding that was lying around.
This is essentially my first time painting digitally, so critique would be loved!!!

Hi people! Amazing site, lots of inspiration here! I haven't really been drawing studies before so I was glad when I found this thread. Really inspired me to buy a tablet and get started.
Blocking in the colors and blending was challenging. My fruits looks kinda flat and the coloring was hard to get right. Fun experience trying to paint with a tablet! Crit is appreciated, Thanks!
