WIP First time working straight into color, need advice with lighting

2 pieces total. I want to get to refine both of them. Do I simply zoom in and make it work there? Anyways, open to any advice/critiques/help.

NINJA EDIT: I need help with the water too! I'm not sure how that would go, as most of it is in shadow... usually water is brighter right?

About water... try to think of it as a reflective surface rather than as certain color/value. On a bright clear sky it can be quite bright yes, but in the night or in a stormy weather it can be dark (as it reflects the dark of the sky). I suggest finding a reference images of water in google.

Yeah, when you go in to details you just have to zoom in on a part and work that way. But make sure to zoom out often to see if the picture is working as a whole. It's easy to get carried away with overworking details.

As a general tip I suggest working with bigger brushes to avoid the scratchy hey-stack texture you've got going on in both pictures.
